I have saw enough, too much to be precise that points to Rareware going Multi format.
Over the previous months I have took the situation on board my quite fantastic piece of kit which is my Brain, if you would like to know; and saw everything, every darn thing- hinting that a statement is very imminent on their decision to go to the Dark Side.
First it was those darn Christmas cards, yes you know what Im on about. Last Christmas Rare just didn't release those out to the Gaming press just for the sake of it, they where hinting at something. It wasn't a joke either or just Ninty Dirty tricks, I don't believe it. I think it was a clear message to Nintendo, a little nudge that the company was thinking of Multi format, now who would bet against me being wrong?
To make matters worse for Ninties, Rareware had everyone geared up for E3 for some shock announcement either way. Sonyphiles and Gatey Philes where expecting an announcement on a decision to develop for their beloved system's, Ninties on the other hand where hoping for Rare to show to the world the mighty Kameo: Elements of Power, which looked so good in Demonstration form, and of course Ninties where hoping for a glimpse of a running Perfect Dark Zero.
But... But... Rareware where absent from E3. Why?? Why did they not even show their creative faces at the event?, where they afraid of Nintendo's reaction?, has Nintendo done something to stop them making announcement? Only Time will tell on that one.
Either way,Something is SERIOUSLY up in Twycross, there is some sort of commotion going on, I mean Rare, one of the greatest games developers on Earth was absent at E3, something seriously is wrong there!.
To top my suspicions off, Rare will not even deny that they are going Multi Format, even Nintendo will not even deny it- all we seem to hear and read about is "At present, the current relationship between Rareware and Nintendo has not changed" They NEVER mention anything else and its the same as Rare, a simple straight forward YES or NO would be ample.
And I'm a frequent reader of Edge magazine too, if you read the mag yourself you will know about the developer's adverts in the mag, for recruitments. Previously before Christmas and the 5 years previous, we got Adverts like "To work on Nintendo systems GAMECUBE and GBA" and what do we get now? Nothing mentioning Gamecube at all!!
Its heading in the Multiformat direction, this whole Rare thing. wheather you like it or not.
Perhaps the quietness at E3 was due to discussions with Nintendo and the long term future? Who knows? But time will tell!.
Anyways, I still think Rare will make games for GameCube first (simply because they have more experience with GC) then convert them to PS2/ Xbox later, meaning GC is more likely to get Rare games first... Also, if Rare continue using any Ninty franchises, obviously they will be GameCube only affairs.
Namco are already working on the next Starfox game (after Dinosaur Planet) and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to work on many other of Nintendo's Rareware franchises.
Chances are, if Rareware were to start developing games multiformat, they'd still make their Nintendo exclusives (with Nintendo's games they'd have to) and maybe we'd even see some fresh new games by Rare on all formats (including GameCube) in the future.
The possibility of Rareware going multiformat isn't neccesarily a bad thing for Nintendo.
Ever considered what it could do for Rareware if they stayed single-format? Nintendo's new president has already stated the GameCube could be Nintendo's last console, so what would Rareware do, unless bought completely by Nintendo, if Nintendo became a software-only company?
These forums are becoming like the games industry, tired and repetitive.
And actually Rare did deny going multi-format.
