I have saw enough, too much to be precise that points to Rareware going Multi format.
Over the previous months I have took the situation on board my quite fantastic piece of kit which is my Brain, if you would like to know; and saw everything, every darn thing- hinting that a statement is very imminent on their decision to go to the Dark Side.
First it was those darn Christmas cards, yes you know what Im on about. Last Christmas Rare just didn't release those out to the Gaming press just for the sake of it, they where hinting at something. It wasn't a joke either or just Ninty Dirty tricks, I don't believe it. I think it was a clear message to Nintendo, a little nudge that the company was thinking of Multi format, now who would bet against me being wrong?
To make matters worse for Ninties, Rareware had everyone geared up for E3 for some shock announcement either way. Sonyphiles and Gatey Philes where expecting an announcement on a decision to develop for their beloved system's, Ninties on the other hand where hoping for Rare to show to the world the mighty Kameo: Elements of Power, which looked so good in Demonstration form, and of course Ninties where hoping for a glimpse of a running Perfect Dark Zero.
But... But... Rareware where absent from E3. Why?? Why did they not even show their creative faces at the event?, where they afraid of Nintendo's reaction?, has Nintendo done something to stop them making announcement? Only Time will tell on that one.
Either way,Something is SERIOUSLY up in Twycross, there is some sort of commotion going on, I mean Rare, one of the greatest games developers on Earth was absent at E3, something seriously is wrong there!.
To top my suspicions off, Rare will not even deny that they are going Multi Format, even Nintendo will not even deny it- all we seem to hear and read about is "At present, the current relationship between Rareware and Nintendo has not changed" They NEVER mention anything else and its the same as Rare, a simple straight forward YES or NO would be ample.
And I'm a frequent reader of Edge magazine too, if you read the mag yourself you will know about the developer's adverts in the mag, for recruitments. Previously before Christmas and the 5 years previous, we got Adverts like "To work on Nintendo systems GAMECUBE and GBA" and what do we get now? Nothing mentioning Gamecube at all!!
Its heading in the Multiformat direction, this whole Rare thing. wheather you like it or not.
Perhaps the quietness at E3 was due to discussions with Nintendo and the long term future? Who knows? But time will tell!.

Yeah, all signs, including the ONE rumour based on something that the new president of Nintendo said which might have meant that.

Most parts, itsept for Wales and some parts of Bognor Regis.
i very expesive to HAHAHA ;0)
Isn't selling your body illegal in most parts of the UK?
Also, the monopolies and mergers commission are making sure Microsoft aren't buying out any small independent gaming companies in the UK.
Which is nice.

You're sorta right and wrong both of you, Square set the company up, Nintendo funded it, Square would have to do the same thing but then again they already have.... Free Radical Design.

Oh Sonic was 100% right there despite me being on your side RARE had a 6 (or was it 5) year contract with Nintendo.... sorry :) I got all this from good old IGN. But there is something else you all must know.
RARE despite being one of the best in the world is a financial difficulty to own. Rare will not have made a game in a year and a half when Starfox comes out, that is incredibly poor for such a large company. Rare may have a load of cash but not enough to go solo, they need a publisher. Nintendo are publishing the Square games on the Gamecube but unless Sony, Microsoft, Activison, Infogrammes, Eidos, THQ etc... take up the responsibility of funding RARE then RARE cannot go multiformat.
The fact is all these companies have got to be aware that RARE will cost a lot, yep most of them can afford the company but it will put a strain on them. Nintendo are a publisher (and developer) house, they already support RARE and will continue to do so, if RARE go multi-format start a game and then ask for a publishing deal then there is a chance they will not get one like the awsome BOSS games company that had to close down reacently. Yep RARE can go multi-format if a company will support them if there isn't then they'll stick with Nintendo which they may be considering anyway. Left Field for example were with Nintendo and then were shunned, no more publishing deal and Left Field were worried, if they don't persuade another publisher to take them on then they're doomed, luckily Infogrammes said yes....
We'll see.

Actually no, the time scale ran out then but Nintendo's exclusive hold remains exclusive until the Starfox is completed, they can announce multi-format but no new games will be announced until Starfox is done. Also be aware that RARE will not finish another game for the Gamecube until mid-late 2003 let alone an X-box or PS2 game.

No, Sony could do exactly the same thing (Rare couldn't afford it) what Nintendo did- i.e set up a company, fund it and entice members of Rare to develop games for the PS2. The same could happen with Microsoft, both Sony and Microsoft are not short of money to do this.

No again, they never had an exclusivity contract with Rare itself, only with certain games that they developed- such as Donkey Kong and Perfect Dark. Rare at ANY time could have developed a game of their choice for the PSOne, there was no stopping them.
