No worries. I'll dig out the book and skim-read the characters names. I seem to remember one of the brethren being less enthusiastic than the rest so it might be him.

It was a good fifteen years ago! I started reading it again about four months ago but only got about twenty pages in and, to be honest, didn't take much of it in.

Hmm, been a while since I've read that one. My first thought is that the captain was Sam Vimes but that seems too easy and makes me think I've got the ranks mixed up.

No immediate idea on the second question so I'll refresh myself of the characters names and see if it rings any bells -- I promise not to just reread the book!
