Heh, you only want the year? The first F1 race in China was 2004, won by Rubens Barrichello in a Ferrari. Michael Schumacher has the lap record and no driver in the 4 years it has run so far has won it twice. Alonso, Michael Schumacher and Raikkonen are the other 3 winners. Ferrari have won the race 3 times with Renault the only other team to win there.

You want more or have I answered it sufficiently? :)

Actually it was 2003 :( no I'm messing, you're correct many times over. Looks like I underestimated your knowledge of Formula One. :)

It was a decent enough question as a lot of the Schumacher era kind of merges together and putting a year on things is quite difficult.

Ah that's not too bad then. Okay this one you won't find so easy, infact I'm pretty sure you won't know it :D

The 1988 Formula One season was won by which driver, for which team? A bonus point if you can name the driver who came 2nd just a few points behind him.

*evil laughter*

You see, back in the 80's, they had some really stupid scoring system where they only counted your best 11 (I think) results. The team was really obvious because both Prost and Senna drove for McLaren and had a really bitter rivalry.

As for the title, it was won by Senna despite the fact that Prost under the scoring system where all the results count was miles ahead. Prost was 2nd if you needed that. I think Prost was 11 points ahead where all results counted and lost by 3 when only 11 counted.

I think that's right.

Correct on both :) You really know your stuff GP. I guess I'll only win if I give you a question about earlier seasons, perhaps the 50s and 60s.

So you think Prost should have won it? I did read a bit about it when I was finding the question for you. I'm guessing the point system has changed now?

Over the 16 race season, Prost was the most consistent but Senna won 8 and finished 2nd 3 times I think. Prost couldn't match that. He would have had to have won the other 8 races and although the McLaren was dominant, it would have been very unlikely as things were very different in those days. The scoring system changed in 1991 I think.

If that points system was running today, it would be exploited so much. The teams are always trying to find ways of getting round the rules. At the moment, the teams and drivers that are consistent are the ones that win the Championship. Hamilton was leading the Championship last season before he even scored a race win.

Ecclestone wants the Drivers Championship to be won by race wins, which I'm not that opposed to as it makes drivers fight for wins rather than settling for 2nd and picking up points.

I think winning by races sounds good :) I read your post earlier, I havent really been watching F1 much but I did find it funny that ITV would run ads during the race. It must be awful to watch and the ads probably seem like they last forever. Must be a few happy fans now that it's gone to the BBC.

Yeah, it kind of gets to the point where you are expecting something to happen when they go to a break. I follow the timing screens online so I usually know when something isn't right.
