I thought i would start a thread about pefect dark as this had to be the best game on the n64 and will be on the gamecube as well. So in here talk about anything to do with perfect dark.

Ive got a few questions for starters.

Has a perfect dark for the gamecube actually been confirmed by rare?

also what would you like to see in perfect dark on the gamecube if there is going to be one?

I would like to see the ability to jump. I believe this would be good as you would be able dodge more and create great air combat.

OK, everybody listen....

With Goldeneye, you got those codes that allowed you to have access to every cheat, they came out ages after the game had come out...

Does anybody know anything like this about Perfect Dark? If I knew about the cheats I might start to play it again...

most probably:
shoot- A
reload/use item/open door- B
weapon selection- y
second function- x
bring up aim(like Goldeneye)- L (click locks it)
jump/crouch/special secret function (you never know)- R
x- axis control (like the control stick on Goldeneye)- left Stick
look up/down/strafe left/right- C-Stick
control teammates/quick weapon select- D-pad
secondary shoot (for when your strafing)- z

Since I have no idea how the game plays or what you can do, or anything about the game, I can't realistically map all the buttons, but this is what all FPSs on the GCN should be like. Probably

Luigi's Mansion uses the dual Analogue Sticks system, and that works fine.
I know it's not an FPS, but the GC pad is a lot more comfortable than the X-box one!

I can see how it won't work though, but i'm sure it'd be fine after a good few.... months practice.

What do you think about all the buttons then??

no. no it doesn't. it's not a patch on goldeneye/turok(s)/perfect dark, and that isn't a patch on the keyboard/mouse.

how many times do i have to say DUAL ANALOGUE FPSs DON'T WORK
please, please Rare, don't make it one stick for aiming, one stick for moving.

I think the L and R buttons should be used to Strafe left and right.
The Analogue Stick for moving around only.
The C-stick for moving the Cross-hair.
The Z button for firing - YES, the Z button!
The A button to re-load (like you said).
The B button to launch Grenades or Bombs.
And the X and Y kidney-shaped buttons could be used for switching between guns and weapons.

That is of course, for the areas of the game in First Person perspective!
I doubt that this would work too well in a Third Person view.

We'll probably find that all controls are the same as on the N64 game though. Where the C-stick will somehow be used for strafing, and A will re-load.

I haven't even held a GC pad properly yet, so I can't say much more.

dual analogue control for FPSs like this and on HALO DOESN'T WORK.

it's akward and restricting

The main analog should be used for movement, the c-stick to aim your gun the L or Buttton for shooting and the A to bring up the weapons menu then you press a direction to choose your gun.

They hopefully won't bother with jumping like they sensibly didn't in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Jumping in 1st person shooters is like banging your head against a wall, it's not fun and it's not clever.

The keyboard and mouse is the only really versatile option for FPSs. Halo on XBOX showed me that the new wave of dual analogue controllers can't handle FPSs.

The fact that you can't aim and reload at the same time is terrible.

If Rare do make PD0,then I hope they use tha main stick as a movement x-axis stick, and the c-stick as the aim, but one that doesn't automatically centre itself (like the c buttons on the 64).

This would mean that you could have your thumb on the main buttons, rather than always on the two sticks, meaning that L/R becomes shoot.

This way, L could be like R-aim on goldeneye, and R could be analogue jump or something.

They could bring out a keyboard/mouse and that would solve everything, as long as the solution isn't that PSO controller/Keyboard hybrid that launches with PSO in Japan.

Oh the Horror
