I've just been over to the Dreamcast forum to see what was going on over there. I am amazed at what i have seen.

All the little Sega fans who trapse over here to attack the PS2, are over there trying to convince themselves that the PS2 is rubbish. They are listing all the games (past & future) that are going to challenge the PS2. Aw........bless them.

But seriously, they are just as dedicated to their machine as we are to the PS2, so i for one am going to cut them a little slack from now on.

I am interested in knowing a bit more about the Dreamcast, (never having played one) and whether it is as good as the PS2. Has anyone here owned/played one?

You hit the nail on the head there Grix, ONE DAY IT WILL MORE THAN LIKELY HAVE A GREAT GAMES LINE UP. The PS2 is still in it's infancy, hell it hasn't even been released in this country yet, and the Dreamcast is at best an adolescent. It would be un-realistic to think that ANY console could hit it's peak with it's first batch of games. In my opinion it could take 12-18 months before any of the developers even start to see it's full potential.

Though i do respect your opinion, you seem to be missing the point a bit. Ok, the games for the PS2 probably won't be the best this year, but this is the dawn of a new gaming era, and i for one want to be there at the begining to witness it. The Dreamcast i am sure is a great machine, but by the begining of the year it will be showing it's age. In the past, consoles could stick around for years and still be good sellers. But now, it's a different kettle of fish altogether. What's new today, could well be old hat by tomorrow.

Yes, it is the best console, when its released, but does it have the best games?

No. Certainly not. And anyone who thinks the games coming out are better than all the Dreamcast has at the moment are crazy, to put it simply.

It will, probably, have a very good line up of games one day, end of next year, perhaps, but not yet.

This is why I am confused at people making so much fuss over it already...

Please respect my opinion.

But how good is the Dreamcast. Logic dictates that Sony would not bring out a machine that is less advanced than one of it's rivals. On paper, the PS2 is way ahead in every field. And the old argument that the PS2 is hard to programme for is proving itself to be unfounded. As for the lack of third party support, read the list of supporting programmers that have dedicated their time and effort to Sony, now that argument is out of the window.

So what can Sony's rivals come up with next, ah right, accessories. It is no good because it is only a 2 player. Right, on it's own it is a 2 player, but buy 2 multi-taps and it becomes anything up to an 8 player. Next i hear you say, it's too expensive. Granted £300 is a lot of money, but just look at what you get, the features of the console speak for themselves. And of course another "BAD POINT" of the machine is it's design. Now this argument is one that cannot be answered by anyone, as it comes down to personal choice. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so you either like it or you don't.

The point of all this is, the PS2 is definetely going to be the best console available when it is released in this country, but each console that is subsequently released WILL be better in one way or another. Sony know this, and already have upgrades in the pipe-line to make the PS2 a better machine. Who knows, by the time that the X-Box arrives, we could be looking at the PS2 MkII.

What exactly was the problem with the Sega Saturn anyhow?

A mate of mine had one and used to rave about it. I used to own a Sega Megadrive, and i thought that was a good machine. I then went on to buy a PSX and that really blew my mind.

Was the Saturn a 32-bit machine?

i have a dreamcast
i think it is a great machine, however i still dont think the public and the the 3rd party publishers have forgiven sega for the saturn yet. Also the lack of any REAL online gaming is still a sore point. However i love ferrari 355
resident evil etc. But with ps2 so close i wouldnt recommend buying one just now.

This is just stupid, why are they attacking us because they don't like trhe PS2? If anything, they would not waste time on us.

Patriotism...

Nope. But I'm seriously considering, to the point of deciding, to buy one.

The quality of games is suprisingly high, it's a shame no one really knows that much about it.
