Ok, here's a couple of points that people who are slating the Xbox should remember:

1. Nintendo dropped the price of the N64 by £100 3 months after launch, and offered NO compensation for early buyers. A few people got a free pad if they phoned up and complained enough.

2. What's all this crap about "a console has to be succesful in Japan"? Er, MegaDrive anyone? It's wasn't a flop in Japan, but it wasn't far off. The majority of the units were sold in Europe and the US, yet that survived and did amazingly well over here.

Just a couple of facts you might want to remember. It just seems a few of you have "selective memories", that's all...

That's the American philosphy of "we've got all this space... we'll use it not because we have to, but because we can!" :-)

Like technology and the consoles themselves, the Japanese know how to make the most of the space available. ;-)

Fair point, none, at the moment.

Unless you count Halo which uses it to get rid of loading times.

However, there are a large number of games that will use it that will be out by the end of the year.

The other advantage is that you can have larger game save files, so more info can be saved. Which is why with Max Payne (I think it was), you can save it in the same way as on PC, but in the PS2 version you could only save at the end of levels. Whether that's a good or bad thing depends on how you like to play your games I guess...

Same as I feel about the Xbox.

Same here. Except my biggest list was easily for PS2, with several for Gamecube and... umm... two for Xbox.

It's just 'different strokes for different folks', that's all. Doesn't mean any machine is better or worse, it just means that some give you more of the games you want to play.

For me it's PS2, Gamecube and Xbox in that order. You're wondering if it's worth keeping the Gamecube, I'm wondering if it's worth keeping the Xbox.

We all have our opinions and preferences, and we voice them here. Why is a simple matter of personal choice such a controversial matter?

If I were to go and buy a BMW and a Fiesta and you bought a Merc and a Mini, would we be here discussing why the BMW is better than the Merc, and we regretted buying the smaller car? Don't think so. It's consumer choice, that's all - and I don't see why it's that big a deal.

I'll trade in my Xbox, you trade in your Gamecube. Is anyone else really that bothered?

It would be good for consumers, but I think MS would be laughed out of the market.

Two price drops in less than three months from launch would essentially be a vote of no confidence in their own hardware. Even the PS1 stayed at £300 for around a year.

Like many others I know, I bought the GC for 2 reasons.

1. Rogue Leader
2. A cheap console to have "as well as" the console I already have which is the X-Box. I wouldn't have paid the £170 that was originally being asked and if not for Rogue Leader I wouldn't have bothered at the £130 asking price.

Even now, I'm really wondering what the point is of having the console. So far all the games have just frustrated me, which I don't find fun. I look at the release schedule and I see very little worth getting. I have Rogue Leader, Luigi's Mansion and Wave Race so far. I'm also waiting for Monkey Ball. I've played Monkey Ball though round a friends house and although it was appealing at first, I've really gone off it because its just so frustrating and mini games like the bowling seem more based on luck than skill.
I actually regret changing my GAD from Crash to Monkey Ball now.

As for games like Soul Caliber, I'll be getting these on the X-Box, so that leaves games like Zelda, Mario and F-Zero. What really opened my eyes to how disappointed I am with the cube was a topic in the Ninty forum which I looked at and added to. Basically it asked to pick 5 games that your really looking forward to on the Cube. I pressed the reply button and after a short moment, I realised I could only come up with 4 titles that I really wanted ! 4 titles ! And this is including the games that aren't out till next year !

When I did a similar thing for the X-Box, I was coming up with at least 20 titles, even going upto 30 !
The Ninty games I came up with were F-Zero, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime and Resident Evil. And as far as I see, 3 out of 4 of them won't even be out till next year. That means my GC will probably be collecting dust for quite awhile before its used again unless Rogue Leader can keep me interested for a very long time.

Guess we'll know when it's released. If Sony make it easily affordable via their rental scheme as suggested, many could.

But then, apart from game saves, how many Xbox games make use if the HD?

Fair points but one thing that I just am not sure of is the price drops. Microsoft are already making a loss on every console they produce, they recently moved production to Japan to try make it cheaper but will it all add up for them in the end?
If the other consoles drop again would the XBox? Also to make profit Microsoft need each owner to buy a barrel load of games. Ok so Microsoft aren't short of a few bob but would you like to have something that dosn't bring you a profit at the end? No me neither. It will be interesting to see where they go from here.

My opinion's 1.34 times as valid as either of yours, and to me, I'd love to have one of each, but only for Monkey Ball and Halo at the moment. I'm sure I'll get one (or both now the prices have dropped) when there's more goodness for the playing.

Personally, I can only see one GC game which really appeals to me, so touché.

Ah well. There's no point any of us saying "My opinion is more correct then yours", so I'll leave it there....

There are more games worth getting than Halo.

There's Jet Set Radio Future, PGR, Amped and Rallisport Challenge, all of which are exclusive. Plus another load of games out over the next two months or so.
