Back in the old days of gaming Nintendo and Sega competed for market supremacy, each with their own little console. Nintendo had their NES and Sega had the Master System, each console had their main characters, NES with Mario and Master System with Sonic. Then, they both bought out their new consoles, the SNES and Mega Drive. These were 16-bit consoles, and more characters were bought out for each.
Nintendo got Zelda and Donkey Kong, Sega staying with sonic, and tails added Knuckles the Echidna.
Then there was talk of 32-bit consoles, the Sony Playstation stormed on to the market, being backed by nearly every game developer out there. Nintendo hit back with the N64, which was extremely underrated as some amazing games were produced on it. It had Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64 and Mario Kart to name a few. This had twice the power of the Playstation and showed it with some amazing graphics.
It was Sega’s turn to get back on the market, bringing out the super powerful Dreamcast. This console was way ahead of its time, but the hype of Sony’s PS2 lessened the demand for Dreamcast, Sega were going bust.
Now it is the turn of the new gen consoles: the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube.
The Playstation was first on the market, but at £300 the sales didn’t go too well until the price dropped. The same developers that backed the ps1 tagged along for the ps2, making sure there was no shortage of games. Then the awesome Xbox hit the market, again at £300, but more people bought this at launch as the power justified the price. Xbox’s power double ps2’s in every aspect, proving its place in the gaming world with games like Halo. Then came the Gamecube out last with nothing new to offer. The Gamecube’s power is even beaten by ps2 in some ways. There is no space for a hard drive and DVD playback is not available. Nintendo used to be at the top of computer gaming, now they are just a second rate contender. What has happened?
The graphics on the GameCube advert looked much better, though. The question is which to trust?
I'm an experienced gamer who has been around games all my life. I own a DC, PSone, PS2, GC and all 8bit, 16bit Spectrum, Atari 2600 etc, i've played all the best games on all those systems, but at the moment, the Xbox just doesn't appeal because there just aren't enough good games out.
One of the reasons why I like the GC so much is the multi-player aspect. I have younger brothers and sisters, and they really enjoy Monkey Ball, Wave Race and Smash Bros, and I enjoy playing those games with them as they are great fun....and fun is the key element to games.
I know the Xbox will get more good games, and I will eventually get one.
The future of all three consoles looks sweet with all of them having some amazing looking games shown off at E3, so lets all enjoy those games: )
(Come on, all you Xbox owners are slightly tempted by Rogue Leader aren't you ;))

I rest my case, i dont want to be rude because you are probably blind or somthing. But if you look closly at Xboxs games and there future rlease schedule you might just chang your mind. Dont get me wrong i like the gc i think it has some good games and am thinking about getting one, its either that or a Xbox. Lookin at games i would natrually go wit Xbox.

By the way that list of game was just a representation to Mr Savatt that the GC release list is packed with games and just cause they don't appeal to him doesn't make the GC release list weak. I had the same problem with GBA, I bought one never played on it so sold it. A lot of people love them though so they must be doing something right, i'd rather concentrate on my Cube, I kinda grew out of handheld gaming a long time ago.
> Timesplitters 2
Also on PS2.
> Die Hard
Not sure about that one...
> Medal of Honor
On PS2 first I believe.
> Jedi Knight 2
Already on PC, will be out on X-Box.
> Star Wars Bounty hunter
Also on PS2.
> Star Wars Ep 2: Clone Wars
Not sure...there's so many Ep 2 games it's hard to remember what's on which format.
> Tony Hawks 4
PS2, possibly X-Box.
> Shaun Palmers Pro Snowboarder 2
Think it's on PS2...nothing special anyway.
> Resident Evil
The GC's big game. Fortunately for me, I thought the PSX and PS2 versions were crap, so I'm not tempted by this either.
> Turok 4
I was surprised to find out this is on PS2 as well.
Okay, it doesn't look too good for X-Box fans, but fortunately for me a lot of those are being released on PS2 as well.
Another thing that's stopped me from even thinking about getting a GC is the GBA. I've spent around £200 on that worthless piece of junk, and I haven't played it for months. Grrrr...

Without any cash from parents.
Heh, I am ze best!

I'm barely able to afford just the one!
If Zelda cel shaded puts you off, you have not see it moving. Like the others have said, if you don't like the games, then that does not mean they are rubbish.
Zelda, Mario, Starfox, 1080 2, Wario, ED (which looks far more 'adult' than any other game I've ever seen) Resi (which looks far better than any other game i've ever seen), Metroid, Turok 4, THPS4, DMBMX3, Timesplitters 2, Die Hard Vendetta etc etc etc.
GC does have a superb future.
(PS - I'm not saying the PS2 and XBOX are rubbish, I am just sayin the GC is also good - Oh - forgot, I'm not in the XBox forum, I don't need to say this!)
