What is wrong with Nintendo?

Back in the old days of gaming Nintendo and Sega competed for market supremacy, each with their own little console. Nintendo had their NES and Sega had the Master System, each console had their main characters, NES with Mario and Master System with Sonic. Then, they both bought out their new consoles, the SNES and Mega Drive. These were 16-bit consoles, and more characters were bought out for each.
Nintendo got Zelda and Donkey Kong, Sega staying with sonic, and tails added Knuckles the Echidna.

Then there was talk of 32-bit consoles, the Sony Playstation stormed on to the market, being backed by nearly every game developer out there. Nintendo hit back with the N64, which was extremely underrated as some amazing games were produced on it. It had Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64 and Mario Kart to name a few. This had twice the power of the Playstation and showed it with some amazing graphics.

It was Sega’s turn to get back on the market, bringing out the super powerful Dreamcast. This console was way ahead of its time, but the hype of Sony’s PS2 lessened the demand for Dreamcast, Sega were going bust.
Now it is the turn of the new gen consoles: the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube.
The Playstation was first on the market, but at £300 the sales didn’t go too well until the price dropped. The same developers that backed the ps1 tagged along for the ps2, making sure there was no shortage of games. Then the awesome Xbox hit the market, again at £300, but more people bought this at launch as the power justified the price. Xbox’s power double ps2’s in every aspect, proving its place in the gaming world with games like Halo. Then came the Gamecube out last with nothing new to offer. The Gamecube’s power is even beaten by ps2 in some ways. There is no space for a hard drive and DVD playback is not available. Nintendo used to be at the top of computer gaming, now they are just a second rate contender. What has happened?

Oh no you see to get Luigi you have to play right through adventure mode (you have to do the first level with a 2 as the fourth digit).

I did it i got to the end and sure enough luigi approached, a good 20 minutes it took me to get there and guess what, i lost.

Imagine that.

DOnt judge Smash brothers too harshy initially. It might seem to be crap at first, buts it definitely got some long lasting appeal. I actually also find the game to be more fun in single player mode...

Yeah I might do. Was thinking about that title because one, the trophies should give it some good longevity and two, the controls look pretty easy which means the friends of mine that don't like awkward controls will probably get into it quite easy.

I was put off a little when I heard about the frustration involved. Especially with Dringo trying to stomp a hole into his GC. ;-))

Cheers for the apology and sorry from me cause I should have worded it better so it sounded more just about me than overall.

But anyway, basically from my point of view, there isn't much on the way that appeals. I guess really the shared titles doesn't help so it narrows things down more to Nintendo and Rare's titles which of course aren't coming thick and fast. I probably won't have much in that way to look forward to till 2003.

I want Resident Evil and maybe one of the Star Wars games will appeal (providing its not crap of course - we all know how up and down LucasArts Star Wars games can be). I mean, Knights of the old Republic appeals to me without question but its one of those rare Star Wars games that just looks amazing and makes me want it. Same can be said for Rogue Leader - thats really the reason I dived to get a Gamecube.

All I need to have more faith in the GC is for Rare to say those sweet words as far as the GC goes - "Conker's Bad Fur Day". ;-))
Its hard to explain really. Mario looks nice, but it just doesn't really have me jumping up and down. Everyone knows my view on Zelda, Perfect Dark, although a good game, is just failing to grab me because I see too many quality FPS games on X-Box to really get me excited.
I know Metroid is going to be an FPS, but I haven't seen that game since the SNES, so theres something for me to look forward to there.

Mario Kart and F-Zero I REALLY want, but it looks as though I'll be waiting till 2003 for those. :-(
Its not like I'm looking at every way possible to slate the GC, I'm just a little disappointed with things.

I wasn't saying anything about your opinions at the end of the day they're yours and I don't intend to try and change them. i'm just saying that the GC line-up isn't lacking maybe they don't appeal to you but it's not lacking, the X-box line-up doesn't really appeal to me, there's maybe 4 games that intrest me but it's not lacking it just doesn't appeal to me.

I apologise if what you meant was it was lacking in terms of games that appeal to you, I thought you meant that there weren't many games coming out for GC.

Ok, looking through those titles I'll give my verdict on each of them.
Timesplitters 2 - Didn't like the first game on PS2 so I'm not into the idea of buying the sequel on any format.

Die Hard - Not a really a game I want.

Medal of Honour - Getting it on X-Box.

Jedi Knight 2 - Again coming to X-Box.

Star Wars Bounty Hunter & Clone Wars - May consider these if they are good when they are finished and don't appear on X-Box.

Tony Hawks 4 and Shaun Palmers - Not really into these types of games. Not sure about Shaun Palmers but Tony Hawks 4 will be on X-Box.

Resident Evil - I will have.

Turok 4 - Again, if I get this it'll be on X-Box.

Now, of course these are my opinions and I'm entitled to them. I see Ninties making similar posts of this type and yet I haven't seen you run too quickly to go and say the same thing to them about their opinion (i.e. Halo is the only good X-Box game, nothing coming out for the console, etc). I have a GC, I've been keeping an eye on the games coming out for it and I'm a bit disappointed. Just cause you and the others who replied after you are happy with the games line up doesn't mean I have to be.

I'm not a Nintendo hater, if I was I wouldn't have bought a Gamecube. I'm just disappointed in the games lined up for it. What I don't understand is how a Ninty can say a similar thing about the X-Box and thats ok, but because I've said something against Nintendo, I'm in the wrong. We all have our opinions, just cause mine doesn't kiss your favourite console company's backside doesn't make it wrong.

Of course I defend the X-Box in the X-Box forum because the comments I reply to tend to be things that people will come in and comment about when they don't even know anything about it. I mean, who cares about how big a console is - what are some people trying to do on here, shove it up their crack ??
Then of course there is the topics like stuff about the hard drive, storing music, etc, etc, etc.

Basically, game arguements can just go on forever, but those topics above tend to be the ones I will reply to a lot.

Not as good as the PS2 Controller. {:)

Seriously though, I can't get used to other controllers now. My hands seem to have melded into the shape of the analog PS2 controller...I can't even hold an old PS1 controller without noticing the difference.

And now I've said controller too many times.

ant- TRUST THE ADD!!!!!!!!

Seriously gamecube graphics are amazing.

it is a wonderful console with literally 5 second load times.

And you don;t notice them!

The cube is smaller and lighter than the Xbox and its graphics are just as good. it has better gameplay and a better controller.
