I now realise exactly why Nintendo market their games towards children and simpletons.
It’s not to “hook ‘em young” or any of the other reasons.
It’s not because the games are baby and colour-laden to keep the gurgling moptops happy.

No, Nintendo aim for kids for one reason and one reason only – to minimise damage to consoles.
Super Monkey Ball – looks simple and nice. But it’s the most aggravating, red-faced shouty, head hurtingly and pointlessly frustrating game I have ever played.
It starts ok, roll about and collect bananas etc and then WHAM, stupid levels that you need the dexterity and control of a goddamn robot to do.
The guitar level.
You have to roll along guitar strings. Bloody guitar strings.
I’m not going repeat the language used here in case children and priests see it and I get carried away to work in sulphur mines as punishment.
Suffice to say, it took many many many attempts before I abandoned all thought of getting bananas and just went for the exit.
I broke a controller on that level and made my girlfriend’s kitten hide under the bed.
I don’t mind difficult levels, it extends gaming time etc but there comes a point when you place the controller down, go outside and smoke before returning to the console, picking up the controller and hurling it outside against a brick wall.
Stupid game.
Utterly, infuriatingly frustrating.

So Nintendo aim at kids, that way their tiny fists can do no damage to the console, they just sit there and cry instead of screaming obscenities and engaging in controller/wall interface scenarios.

I hate Super Monkey Ball. I have neither the time nor the temper to throw myself at a level in the vain hope I’ll get through it.
But I did get past the guitar level, only to discover the next one – a wooden level to be even worse.
I’m selling this game to someone with the patience of a Sniper and going back to Rogue Squadron.
Stupid game.

It's a bit like Wave Race.

At first, you'lll swear at the unpredictability of the waves, losing you positions and points. But with practice (a lot of practice), you'll eventuall progress to the next stage. That's one way of streching out a game, I suppose.

Monkey Ball is a damn hard game, but that's one of the main things that's given it a good name. Has anyone ever unlocked master mode? I doubt I ever will. I haven't played SMB as much as I'd liked but so far I'm up to level 26 of the advance stages.

*sigh* I don't get your point, firstly Super Monkey Ball is made by SEGA not Nintendo so your arguement of Nintendo aiming there games at kids kind of contradicts itself, and also what i don't get is why do you have to break a controller all because of one level? however i do find it highly amusing that anyone would break a controller because of the difficulty of a game :D

If I get annoyed by a particular level or game i just either switch it off or play another game, simple! I very rarely get stuck on games though so I get very rarely frustrated :) and besides are'nt games meant to reduce stress not add to it? afterall they are in some senses just a break from the stress of everyday life, so if you find yourself pulling your hair out after playing super monkey ball is'nt that just defeating the object rather than the game?

anyway, i still intend to get SMB no matter how many stories of anger /frustration/killing/attempted suicide stories I hear as i'm sure that it's a great game, in the meantime i intend to take out any frustrations by stamping on pikachus head in SSBM when I get it on friday...

I absolutely despise the camera angle in Sonic Adventure 2 : Battle.

Good god I hate it. It's like the Marmite of gaming.

Since having the GC, I haven't had 1 game thats not had me swearing in frustration so far. I swear the console will end up giving me heart attack or something. Either that or I'll be the death of my GC.
