Does anyone know why Freeola won't give us access to MySQL. I'm assuming they use it for their own site, so I'm not quite sure they don't just extend it to all Freeola users.

I've got a cable connection from BlueYonder.

What I've had to do is put one page on the Freeola account and have it forward to a Tripod site which really defeats the object of having a domain name!

You won't get banned, as you made a fair point.

Its only when people become insulting towards others that they are booted.

Who do you get Broadband from??

I bought a domain from Freeola and then attempted to upload some files but they wouldn't allow me to with a broadband connection, I had to connect with a modem. Cue phone call to helpline which offered no answers.

To be honest I am very annoyed that I was not told that I would have to ring up until I had bought the domain.

Freeola - you must realise that many people are using broadband now. Don't you think it would be fair to warn people on your frontpage that connecting for FTP can only be done by ringing your lines?

I feel that I have been slightly decieved here and have since never bought anything from Special Reserve.

P.S. Bet I get banned for this. Freeola don't seem to like negative things said about them on these forums.

Rob, why would Freeola not appreciate people using it???

If they didn't want it in use, wouldn't they have disabled it by now???

Yes, GD is installed and (apparently) working on Freeola. They may not appreciate you using it, though.

Just because the version of PHP they're using has the capability to connect to a MySQL server, doesn't mean they're running a MySQL server :-)

You could always connect to a server running elsewhere, and still use the Freeola webspace.. although that may somewhat defeat the point.

They are enabled ... but the software (MySQL) isn't installed, so it won't work. It just means it will work when Freeola stick MySQL on :o)

I was just looking at a file on my Freeola web space, and I think it is saying that MySQL is enabled:

MySQL Support: enabled
Active Persistent Links: 0
Active Links: 0
Client API version: 3.23.36
MYSQL_MODULE_TYPE: external
MYSQL_SOCKET: /tmp/mysql.sock
MYSQL_INCLUDE: -I/usr/local/include/mysql
MYSQL_LIBS: -L/usr/local/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient -L/usr/lib -z

Am I mistaken, or is it also saying that GD is enabled?:

GD Support: enabled
GD Version: 1.6.2 or higher

Please explain....

Come on, where are the much better deals, then? I'm looking for PHP and MySQL support, and unlimited web space as starting points.

Unrivalled services
Freeola has to be one of, if not the best, ISP around as the services they offer seem unrivalled.
Thanks!
Thank you for dealing with this so promptly it's nice having a service provider that offers a good service, rare to find nowadays.
