The X-Box is a perfectly capable machine - don't get me wrong. When you look at the technical specification compared to Playstation 2 and GameCube it blows them out of the water. A huge Polygon count of 116 million compared to GameCube's 12 million and PS2's 66 million. It's processor is twice as fast as the PS2 and a fair bit faster than the GC. Plus with much higher music and memory capabilities, surely this would be the console to get, no? No.
Do you know why that is? All hardcore, or at least long time, gamers should know that Tech Specs is just something fancy to show off about. What really matters is the games.
This console has, and always will have, huge possibilities for making great games and getting a good market. But they do need more than they have. They need a lot more classic games after the brilliant launch line up. Halo's all well and good but not for the rest of the year. Maybe if they got some games with some serious beats on them to show off their high music capabilities. But that's much easier said than done.
If they want to get some good games that stand out in a crowd, they'll need to get some reliable exclusive second party developers or some exclusive signings. Something that would make someone change their format. Getting GTA3 and MGS2 is all good, but PS2 owners won't buy an X-Box for them.
The Big N have Rare and Resident Evil, which would make me and Resident Evil lovers buy the console, in fact, that's the main reason I did. I thought Veronica X looked brilliant, but not just that, all the exclusive deals like Starfox Adventures and Metroid Prime, how could I resist? Mean while with the X-Box, I may crave to play Halo, but it's just not enough to make me switch formats. I wouldn't give up Res Evil and Rare classics for one game. Microsoft need some deals!
In terms of games for the X-Box, things don't look good, but there is something they could do. Surely most, if not all, of the PC games could be ported across to the X-Box. If this happened many PC lovers were maybe get an X-Box for both PC and X-Box games. It seems logical, but then, who are they competing with? Themselves, it may boost X-Box sales, but wouldn't PC's stop selling? Of course not, everyone needs a PC for something, whether it's writer on Word, creating databases, you name it, PC's have it.
Halo's already being ported across to the PC, so ports to the X-Box could work.
So maybe for all you X-Boxers out there, there may not be shattered dreams, but it all depends on how Microsoft go about it.

It may be brilliant, but everyone has different taste.

"Crazy Taxi 2" was a way better game than CT1 [more short-cuts, more strategy, better city design, superb learning curve, perfect control] - and guess what? it's coming to GameCube.... lucky you. But I've played it to death on the Dreamcast, so I'm looking forward to Crazy Taxi 3.

Plus the concept has hardly changed since it was in the arcade.

Well seeing that there is usually only one or two TRULY "ground-breaking' games released each year [if we're lucky], it's hardly surprising.

I bought an XBOX because my favourite games are exclusively appearing on it [i.e. Jet Set Radio Future, Crazy Taxi 3, and a few others].
The fact is Rickross was pre-judging the XBOX with his "shattered dreams" jibe, and all I was saying is that you've can't judge a console until it's been out for at least 18 months.
Just for the record, I have nothing whatsoever against the GameCube or the PS2. If I had the money I would buy all the consoles....
