Us poor PAL gamers have been punted hashed out 50hz poorly converted NTSC titles for far too long. The colour quality ir poorer than PAL, there are big thick black borders at the top and bottom of the screen, and they're slower than the developer initially intended it to be. However, could the Gamecube buck that trend?
I currently own two Gamecube games, Star Wars Rogue Squadron and Bloody Roar Primal Fury. These two games both contain the beloved 60hhz mode, but what is even better, is the fact that the Gamecube's 60hz mode isn't simply NTSC, it's PAL60. A stroke of genius from Nintendo which allows us lucky Europeans to play games in the best analogue TV format available. Of course if your posh, you'll have HDTV, and even though the Gamecube supports this too, most of the games don't.
Anyway, enough about that, it's the sheer quality of the games I own that I'm loving. When you play a PS2, a lot of the games feel sluggish. There is noticable slow-down, rendering problems (such as the road being missing in GTA3) and all the general problems that games struggling to run bring to the frustrated gamer. Granted not all PS2 games suffer from this, an=d that points to development problems, which everyine knows have been highly reported on the PS2. It's just that Rogue Squadron is absolutely lovely. It doesn't suffer from slowdown, it doesn;t frustrate through sluggish controls, and it is the work of a genius development team.
I like my Gamecube, because every game I have seen running on the system plays absolutely superbly, and I am drooling with anticipation at the prospect of the next wave of games to be released. Pikmin and Super Smash brothers from Nintendo will be amazing.
Sony promised, from the day the European PS2 launch was announced, that 60Hz would be supported widely. The reason that it isn't (very much) is NOT developers not being bothered, but simply because the dev kits make it difficult to do.
Why is it that the Resident Evil team in Capcom happily added a 60Hz option in the DC Code Veronica, but hasn't in PS2 games? The answer is simply that DC 60Hz mode was so easy to do- almost every game in the last 2 years of the console's life supported it- even those by developers who don't seem bothered to do 60Hz support for PS2 games. Adding 60Hz didn't even seem to add any time to porting times...
Likewise, the GC seems to be easy to do 60Hz on- although I don't know the exact numbers, almost every game seems to support it- even games by developers who don't put 60hz in their PS2 games.

That's not an entirely fair comment though. The borders are entirely developer dependent, and it's not Sony's fault. The machine supports 60Hz, just like the Xbox and Gamecube, but developers seem to overlook it. Capcom are the main culprits, and Namco can be bad too.
A number of games do provide a 60Hz option, and many others are full-screen 50Hz.
Capcom have, however, proved that they CAN do beautiful, fast, full-screen games, with the wonderful Maximo.
It's not fair to blame Sony for the failings of the developers.
People are saying how great it is that we get 60hz, and optimised games.
I say, "why did it take this long! They should already be standard!" All Ninty have done is to take us seriously- something Sony haven't done since they guaranteed sales however poor the console. Just look at PS2 games with their huge borders! DMC makes me cringe.
So, the modes are good. But they shouldn't be special- they should just be a fact of gaming.

Your mum and sister prefer me to you though. Dont' be ashamed though, I didn't touch your dad, or your dog. I left them all alone for you too enjoy.
:D
I get plenty of attention actually, i'm like gravity... I have more pulling power than the earth itself... ask any girl - except yours! :)
And you can't say the same for your bird just because she's the size of Jupiter...
One day, you'll get out of bed and start pí**ing up the wall, and it'll be then that you realise that you need to leave your current girlfriend behind - but hey, your bird isn't bad for a pre-pubescent...

She's not bad, for what she is!

*Link courtesy of Bonus' bird, she offered me a lot more, but even her 'business card' made me throw up! :)
I bet we only won at Bannock burn because the men were told they would die anyway if they didn't win.
But seriously, I'm really touched by your jealousy towards my girlfriend Game. Anyone would start to goet seriously depressed at their apparent lack of pulling power with the opposite sex.
Your ata stage where the pimples on the end of your nose, are bigger than the feeble excuse that you English label a brain. And yes, I do feel sorry because I know it's genetic, it's just not your fault.
Anyway, I'll let you get back to giving lamp-posts affectionate touches as you walk past, and hoping you make the local stray have a twinkle in it's eye.
If you ever succeed in getting some of that much needed attention, let me know.
Oh, and no, your mother or sister doesn't count, I know what you Brummies are like!!
;)
Bonus has lots of dreams, folks. Most of them involve smothering his boyfriend in liquidised haggis and licking it off... obviously a woman with spray cream and chocloate isn't good enough for him.
:)
He'll also tell you that he has a girlfriend. Now before you start imagining a leggy blonde, 5'7 with blue eyes and big bazookas, you have to remember a few things about her:
He's Scottish.
He was only pulled by one person this year - Bonus.
He's Scottish.
Bonus has to leave his contacts at home when they meet.
Someone asked Bonus if they could borrow his boyfriends face because their árse was going on holiday.
He has Ginger hair.
After you've finished throwing up, you can laugh.
