I just want to say congrats on the double mate !!

Also help if you dont lose Vieria :)
Sure he has said he wants to stay, but a players words seem to mean nothing these days...

I'm an Arsenal fan and I would say that we are not a dirty team. Yes we have picked up too many red and yellow cards in the last few years but many were unfairly given. It's not often that Arsenal players are booked/sent off for a tackle with malicious intent. A lot of bookings have been for retaliation, but as Wookiee said if you have players purposely pulling shirts, making bad tackles and just generally niggling away all the game some retaliation is inevitable.
Anyway it was a great result for us, and I predict that we can win the premiership again next season if we can retain our form and not lose the hunger for victory over the summer.
> Which is Alan Shearer had to step in huh?
He didn't have to, though, because no arms were raised.
> And another thing is that it happened after the match a good time after
> the decisions had been made.
Because it was such a p***-poor decision, and not the only one on that day. Despite their reluctance to overturn the cards given, the FA have obviously realised that Poll was in error (they wouldn't go that far for us), because they made sure he didn't officiate at any of our games for the rest of the season.

Yes, I agree, the ban for spitting was thoroughly deserved.

> cos of the opponents going in harder.
Yes, I agree again. There were some outrageous tackles in those games. But to say that the tackles by Scholes, Silvestre (I think) and Keane were any less malicious is just blinkered bias.
> Arsenal have a reputation for playing the "physical" game

That's bull. You don't just go flying in first because of what happened in another game against other opponents. As it said in the press, if you try to play Arsenal at a physical game, you're on to a loser from the start. We try to play nice football these days, but we will still mix it if that's the way you want it.

Yellow cards are given for many reasons, though. Most yellows are for mis-timed tackles, and a mis-timed tackle does not equate to dirty play. Mis-timed tackles are borne of high commitment and/or frustration, not a will to do someone physical harm.
Your first three bookings on Wednesday were for over-agressive two-footed lunges from behind, taking player then ball.
Some of our bookings have also been for retaliation, which is a very hard one to judge. Take the Leeds game at the start of the season: our players were being contantly kicked at, held back an generally 'niggled' throughout the game, with the ref letting it all go. When one of our players gets fed up and has a go back, he gets booked.
Incidents like this are, I can assure you, why many Arsenal fans do not agree with claims that we are a dirty team.
Saying that players shouldn't retaliate is all well and good, but we all know it's not that simple. If I were to kick you all around the park for 40 minutes, you WOULD hit back, despite knowing that you shouldn't.
> He didn't "go for the ref" at all. He voiced his opinions,
> and never layed a finger on the ref.
Which is Alan Shearer had to step in huh? And another thing is that it happened after the match a good time after the decisions had been made. Sure, alot of Uniteds players chased the ref a few years ago against Boro but that was done straight away as the penalty decision was given. But yes, either you look at it players aint gonna change the refs decision.
......

Arsenal have a reputation for playing the "physical" game and we had to up our game accordingly for the protection of our players based on what happened earlier.

So fairwell Ipswitch Town, Good Luck for the 1st Division..
Oops They're not down yet are they?
:D
> Not just once, but twice this season he went for the ref.
He didn't "go for the ref" at all. He voiced his opinions, and never layed a finger on the ref.
Unlike some players, who assault their opponents with punches to the stomach. Or the entire United team chasing the ref around the pitch when a decision goes against them! Especially Keane, who is one of the dirtiest, most ill-tempered players ever.
> Buts its okay for Arsenal to hack away to thier hearts content when
> they dont win the title.
We don't hack away at anyone. Many of our cards have been dubious, especially against Newcastle and Liverpool. One booking we got on Wednesday was for a tackle which was minor compared to an unpunished United tackle which followed seconds earlier!
We have players who are often guilty of mis-timed tackles (like Parlour) but rarely is there malicious intent. Unlike with your lot on Wednesday, who were obviously out to get players riled, booked, and sent off.
And there are teams above us in the 'bad boys' table - yet you have nothing to say about them. David Dein has spoken to Wenger about the discipline, as he was concerned - and since then, we have been far better, with no red cards since Christmas.
> How many red cards have there been under Wenger during the 3 years the
> trophy stayed at Old trafford?
Too many, no question - but they haven't all been justified, and many have been through refereeing mistakes; that's not just me ssaying it, many others have too. But they all get overlooked or forgotten about.
I also like the way you make all of ours sound like they're hackers, and that yours are just "over committed".
Still, it just makes United sound worse - because despite all of our discipline, suspension and injury problems (we have only fielded what would be considered our 'first choice' eleven FOUR times this season!), we still won the title.
And on your ground, too. :-)
However I was definalty surprised that we sold him because of he was wanted so badly at utd by fergie.
Anyway the past is the past.
You cannot blame defeats on any one player.. even if Jaap was around what would he have done about some of the Brown, Barthez and Silvestre Blunders? A football team Attacks as a team and defends as a team, and it all depends on how you do that properly which counts.
I feel we have lost some vital games this season because of not doing basic things. We have played great away to other teams, but at home we have been able to attack but not defend as a team.
There are never any easy games in the premiership, but when you lose at home to the likes of Middlesboro, Bolton, Westham then you know its not going to be your season.
> I hate it though when people are saying how rubbish Blanc and Veron
> are. Blanc is a world cup winner and a great defender-considering he
> is like 36 I think hes done superbly for us.
Thing is - Ferguson made a mistake getting rid of Stam and Blanc, although he was a superb player just isnt as quick as used to be, alot of errors have been made by him this season and a lot of goals have been scored because of his errors. Ferguson is to proud to admit that he made a mistake and we will never know the real reason why he got rid of Stam. That was probably the one decision that lost Utd the championship and for us Non Utd supporters it's great to see somebody else win it.
I'm getting a

But Henry handles Defeat very cooly dont he...
Not just once, but twice this season he went for the ref.
The players were hyped up for the game. After the dissapointments of Europe they were really fired up for this game. Its just a bit of over commitment.
Buts its okay for Arsenal to hack away to thier hearts content when they dont win the title.
How many red cards have there been under Wenger during the 3 years the trophy stayed at Old trafford?
