Donkey Kong 64 was the first game we played together, and great fun it was too. Lisa also liked to play it, and Malibu loved to watch it, especially the DK rap at the start of the game. This was, of course, before the days of Georgia, and I guess I started to ignore you a bit when she came along. Sorry about that, but she needed me more than you did. Still, you were always there for me when I needed you. A quick blast on a football game was a great pick-me-up, when the pressures of fatherhood were bringing me down. You were there with me when China lifted the World Cup, and when DK Junior ruled the tennis circuit it was you I shared the moment with.
SOme of our greatest times were undoubtedly when we stuck a few more pads into you, for some real multiplayer laughs. Remember the time there were about 8 of us playing WWF No Mercy? We played a 40 man Royal Rumble, and handed the pad over every time we got knocked out of the ring, that was such a laugh! Then there was Mario Party 2. This game caused so many fits of laughter from me, like the time we were playing the team game, where one player has to flap the wings, and it was all a bit much for one player, or the time I used the ghost to steal stars from Lisa, and she sulked for the rest of the evening. How about playing co-op Perfect Dark with Lisa, that was always a good laugh, wasn't it? And what about the Goldeneye death matches? Couldn't be beaten, could they? Heh, great times.
Of course, it couldn't have all been good. I mean, there was Tigger's Honey Hunt. I made the wrong call ther, and I'm sorry. I thought Malibu would like it, but it was way too basic to enjoy. A simple 2D platformer, that was way too easy for an experienced gamer like me. Maybe we'd be best not to mention Pokémon Stadium? On the GameBoy it was a great game, and though it looked great on the N64, it was just lacking so much, which was a shame. Anyway, let's not dwell on the bad times, they were so few.
It's a shame I won't see some games through to the end. Jet Force Gemini will never be finished, neither will Perfect Dark be, and I'll never get to find all of the hidden secrets of Majora's Mask, but no, there's no point hanging on. It's time to let go. It's time to replace you, time to move on to pastures new. They may laugh at you, and call you a flop, but you never were to be, you brought joy and laughter, and I'm thankful for that.
So goodbye old friend, and thank you.
Then there's the storing of the consoles themselves. I've got the SNES in its box, DC in its box, old style Playstation in its box, PSone still out with box on top of cupboard, N64 still out with box in cupboard, PS2 still out with box under bed, GC soon though i have no idea where to put the empty box, PS2 still out with box hidden somewhere....i'm drowning in games and console boxes!!
> Yep. Untangling the mess of wires from behind the TV, trying to find
> all the lost manuals, to make room the the GameCube, and it's games.
Nice to hear you are replacing it with a Gamecube, and not somthing EVIL like an X-Box!
Back home I have virtually all my consoles out for some reason. I just felt like having a go on a variety of games. It's gonna be a nightmare when I go back home and have my SNES, N64, Gamecube, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS (narr don't need that anymore), and PS2 all out!
:)
I'm putting my Dreamcast back in the box instead, again it did provide me with great gaming moments, but I never play it anymore (especially now that it doesn't work very well).
