Shock news. FM lands a job working full time in a warehouse. Starting on Wednesday 1st May.

Shock news in that this is a slight lifestyle change for someone who's only played games for the last 5 years. I mean, what am I gonna do? Sure, the extra money is great because I can buy more games, but working 40 hours a week kinda cuts into my gaming a bit, so although I can buy more games I can't actually get around to playing them.

I mean, I'm used to 40 hour stints with the odd break for Pringles when playing Final Fantasy 7, or all-nighters trying to break that lap time on WipeOut Fusion, or vanishing from society for a few weeks to go hunting for those ruddy dogtags on Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty. Not to mention all the redeye sessions I've put in to levelling up my characters in online RPGs.

I now have to cram all this into 5 evenings and 2 weekends, which is going to be hard. I can't exactly quit this job because my CV looks like the Yellow Pages anyway.

I figure the way I'll get around it is by playing 'quick-fix' games weekday evening (lap or two here of Gran Turismo, mission or two in GTAIII, bit of record setting in Burnout maybe) and save the fully immersive stuff like Silent Hill 2 and Final Fantasy IX for the weekend.

But then Deus Ex is about to hit the shelves, not to mention Final Fantasy X, not to mentions TOCA Race Driver and Stuntman and Virtua Fighter 4 and (dare I say it) Britney's Dance Beat.

The only way around this is by getting more quick-fix pick-up-and-play instant-gratification games to fill my evenings during the week. So what do I get? Fantavision and Rez?

I need answers fast, before I ring up work on Tuesday night and tell them I've broken a leg or something so I can get on with an Endurance race in Gran Turismo.

Deus Ex - possibly my fave game on the PC. Genius.
Had a good storyline and playability.

Cannot wait for the second. Its gonna be a stunner.

PS2. My PC isn't high enough spec for the PC version. However, I played Deus Ex the original on my old PC but never got around to finishing it. I've heard the PS2 version, although having levels reduced in scale, is actually better than the PC version because they tweaked the GUI a bit.

you appear to be discounting the weekend. Besides, less time to play will give you the opportunity to take more value from the time you do have

Frustration and sometimes you lie to band and woman and get mates over for games.
Or be ill from work

Probably not, because if I had the opportunity to bring mine into school and play it, I don't think I would. That's how disappointed with it I am.

I don't really have any advice to offer, I haven't played a game for three days because my CD ROM Drive isn't working (means I have an excuse to go to SR this weekend though) and today everytime I start playing the PS2 I get a headache. Got a day off school because of a mild flu, but I'm damn bored. Even staying on here for twenty minutes or so hurts my head.

By the way, were you talking about Deus Ex on the PS2 or Deus Ex 2 on the PC?

How do you get around it though? I mean it's OK for you Goatboy, you can play with your band and play with your girlfriend, but I've just got a job and I can't play with that. I'm seriously starting to think that Fantavision looks like a AAA title. Help!

Wait until you get
(a)A Job
(b)A girlfriend
(c)A Band

Then you'll know what "When do I get time for games?" will mean.
Bah.

Tetris and driving don't mix. And it's not the sort of job where there's 'quiet moments' unfortunately. I've been told that I can have a lunch break when 'it's not busy'.
