I've just spotted this new internet rumour on another website which I frequent.
This £99 price has been mentioned from two different and reasonably reliable sources (Game is one of them).
It's not supposed to be common knowledge - more of an Xbox party spoiler which does make an awful lot of sense.
Don't take this as fact - it's strictly a rumour but it's been backed up with some reasonable information.

I think thats what he means probably there must be a catch somewhere.
Dixons had a £99 PS2 deal before Christmas(believe it or not). Admittedly you had to buy 5 full price games to be eligible... but even so, it's a nice idea!
I don't really believe that Sony need to drop their price further but I wouldn't be surprised if they did just to make the Xbox price drop look meaningless.
Either way, the £200 price tag for Xbox will definitely see an increase in sales - regardless of whether Sony drop the PS2 price or not.

£99?! I doubt that very much, the PSX costs about that much.
£99 seems way too cheap. However, if they did that then X-Box will have to lower their price again which could be good as I am thinking of getting one but bad if Microsoft decide not to enter the console market again with a new console if they are effectively priced out by Sony and Nintendo. My bettings on Sony analysing sales of the PS2 after Gamecube is launched and seeing how much of a dent in sales that the new consoles put on PS2's. Only if the drop in PS2 sales is significant will they drop the price, probably between the prices of X-Box and GC, aroung £150.
