I asked him where he heard it, but at the time of writing he hasn't replied - so I went looking on the PlayStation.com website and forums.

Okay, so anyone can claim to know someone who works at Sony, but it's something worth keeping an eye on.

It would be nice, but it won't happen. The PS2 has been out for far longer, and therefore Sony don't need to compensate people. Prices drop all the time, but people don't get compenstated.
Microsoft have only done the compensation thing because they lowered the price without warning only weeks after release. As the 'new kid on the block', lack of any compensation would almost certainly have lost them any credibility as a major player in the console market.

I hope sony take a leaf out of microsofts book next time they lower the price of their future consoles to compensate the people who pay full price
just a thought :D
it wouldn't be feasible.
As you say wookiee, if they did put the price of the games down it would really stir things up with Nintendo and Microsoft because they need to recoup the costs for producing these new consoles and if they had to put the game prices down as well it might just kill them of.
Now that would not be good for the future of consoles...
I can't see it happening because of the licensing issues, but it really would put the proverbial cat among the pigeons.
