Micorsoft announce Xbox price drop on friday, compensating us early buyers with free games at a joypad.
Ninties run around screaming:
"Xbox has failed! Hahahahaha! Goo-goo ga-ga".
Nintendo announce GC price drop BEFORE the bloody thing has even been released.
Ninties run around screaming:
"GC is the best! We get it cheaper! Hahahaha! Goo-goo ga-ga".
Now, am I the only one that thinks that's a bit stupid? Xbox price comes down because it made good business sense.
GC was the cheapest console anyway, why reduce the price?
Could it be that Nintendo realise that the Xbox is a threat? Sony have already said that they may have to release the PS3 earlier as the Xbox is s***-hot.
I put it to you that Nintendo are scared crapless of the Xbox price drop.
On friday, you could have bought a console just as powerful (if not lsightly more) than the GC, with a top quality DVD player, for only £40 more than the price of the GC.
So they dropped the price. Because they're scared.
Goo goo ga ga.

So..... let me get this right. Something is not cool until YOU own it and then it is cool until YOU decide otherwise (usually when something else comes out)?

Yup.
And I was slating the PS2 before I had that as well.
I'm nothing if not consistent.
Difference is, I would rather slam my scrotum in a car-door than pay even £34.99 for a Gamecube, because I really, really hated my N64 and still want to burn Nintendo down for producing such a shoddy spazzy console (for my needs).

Not at all, it's just it really p!sses me off when there seems to be one rule for one group, and one for another.
I.e the same thing happens to Xbox and GC, but it somehow automatically spells disaster for the Xbox but it's a joyous occasion for GC fans. All spouted by people who have no knowledge of business.
Oh, I forgot, all you 14 year olds have a PHd in business and know exactly what you're talking about...

True but you also had a go at the Xbox for a long time whilst you had your PS" no?
well actually its £70 more cos you have to buy the dvd playback.
and personally id prefer a proper DVD player rather than a console one.

Noooo! Still have my PS2.
Still, I did say that the Xbox price drop may force Nintendo back into the 'family' niche in my 'Defence mechanisms' post in Prime - which it seems no-one read, or at least didn't find interesting.
The price drop of the Gamecube could be interpreted as a first step in that process; as YH said, it does show concern on Nintendo's part.
Because I don't miss my PS2 at all.
And if I did, I'd buy another one.
Aaaaah, that's your best argument that is.
