On my PC, both the CD-RW and the DVD drives carry on until they have detirmined there's a blockage, which usually takes a second, then they re-open.

lol, it's probably one of those sensor things. Notice if you use your finger to block the CD/DVD drive as it's closing, it will stop and re-open so as not to keep trying to crush your finger...
