dinosaurs laid eggs

Chickens came after dinosaurs

So obviously the Egg came first.

You could probably go back even further to when life only existed in oceans and find creatures that laid eggs but not ckicken's

Egg first

Anywya, many creatures laid eggs before chickens, so unless we specifically question whether the chicken or the egg it laid came first, the answer is obvious. ;-)

I still stand by the chicken, as the egg it came from was the egg of a creature that had not yet met all off the criteria to be a chicken. Only when this first true chicken laid an egg was the first chicken egg laid.

that's not quite what he was trying to say, but besides, the question didn't specify chicken eggs, just eggs.

So if a non-chicken laid an egg which contained a chicken, you're saying that that egg is a chicken egg because it contains a chicken, and not a non-chicken egg because it was laid by a non-chicken?

Birds evolved from dinasuars. Which were reptiles, so laid eggs. Eggs had been there long before chickens. But its a taxonomical question, whatever was the first creature to match all the criteria to be a chicken came from an egg. The thing that laid that egg was the chicken's nearest evoutionary ancestor, the proto-chicken if you like.

The egg came first.
