Does Michael Owen have the following:
Influence over other players
Determination
Teamwork
Mental Strength
Courage
Leadership
Alan Shearer has all these qualities, but Owen does not have all these qualities.
A better captain is Rio or Southgate as they offer players leadership and i cannot think why Sven has given the armband to Owen!

Owen's got it to try to inspire him to a higher levelof performance for England. Clever thinking by Sven.
Of course, whether he'll have it for the whole match is another question altogether, as didn't Sven say that he wouldn't over use players chasing medals?
Though Paraguay look unlikely to agree to allow Sven 11 substitutions.

But i believe that a captain should not be a keeper or a striker. Also he still is quite inexperienced at international level. Captains have to lead the team when heads are down. I can't see Owen doing this.
