I don't use the PC for games very much, especially not online because: A) My PC is extremely slow
B) Even if it wasn't, there would be loads of lag which
turns a game of skill into a game of "run around
shooting and hope for the best"

For people who don't know, lag is when what you see is what happened a few seconds ago, i.e. because of a slow internet connection, you see an enemy player, you shoot them, the shot makes contact but nothing happens because they are actually further on so you have to try and shoot where you think they will be (hardly ever works!) or shoot and hope for the best (best method available) making current online gaming skill-less for most games (turn based games work alright though!).

My friend still plays it though and revealed to me the better side to it:

CLAN WARFARE

It's actually pretty good fun. You join or build a clan and become part of a team and you make loads of new friends. The clan leader will hopefully make a website to put news on and have a message board on it for you all to leave message about all the funny/great things you've done.

Some one in a clan will have an arguement with another clan and a war between the 2 clans start. This warfare may range from leaving annoying messages on the enemy clan message board or fighting against them (in a skilless battle of "Tap fire and hope for the best!")
Naturally the greatest clan leaders are PC nerds who play so much the master how to use lag to their advantage.

Luckily the the days of lag are numbered. The super fast broadband modem will hopefully be fast enough to play games on without the lag. Not only that but the broadband modem will be on the PS2 and the Gamecube meaning console gamers will get the chance to player the likes of Perfect Dark online.

With lag eliminated, skill will be now used in internet games making the games more fun and worth while to play.

Once the games are played properly online without lag, clan warfare will be a BIG thing. And I'll be able to beat all those pesky "shoot and hope for the best players" and have proper and exiting deathmatches against the likes of you lot (with a few exceptions)...

Now THAT'S the future of gaming (until VR headsets arrive, that is!)

Ok, I've thought of a name for the clan. The Gaming Elite!
So far there's me, Grix and Bluebeetle (2 members already and the clan doesn't start for another year!).
I'm not sure which multiplayer games we'll be playing (Nintendo have no GC game names yet) but expect a shooting game from Rare and a Racing game from Nintendo.

I must confess, I never read this the first time around Dan! I'd be interested, I love multiplayer net games, but like you I would prefer group based affairs. Have you seen that new internet based war game that you download and play in teams? I can't remember the name, but I've got it on the back of a mag at home, so I'll have a look then.

Great! So in a years time when I get a Gamecube, a broadband adaptor and a great multiplayer game (probably Perfect Dark) I'll start a clan with Grix.
I haven't thought of a name yet but I've got a while to sort that out. Anyone else want to join?

I don't see why not! Only wait until I have free internet.
(But that could take months...)

Jedi knight on the MSN gaming zone, eh? Funny you should mention it because that was the exact game I was talking about! I'm glad someone else knows what it's like being part of a clan war.

What's your zone name on the Zone and what clan did you join?

Didn't you find the lag incredibly annoying?

Have you heard of my friend (known as NAM_CACTUS or GMA_SAFER_G)?

I haven't actually got the game (having only played it at my friends house) so I didn't really do much on it but when the Gamecubes online multiplayer comes into town I'll start a clan.

Any one here want to join it?

I was in a Jedi Knight clan once, it was great fun.

I joined up at www.zone.com, and looked at a clan sign up thing. The idea was, that four of us were on, two of them wanted to form a clan, and me and another person wanted to join.
Of course just asking to be in the clan wasn't good enough for these people, the challenger had to beat one of the members at lightsaber fighting.

I let the other person go first. He pulled out a red lightsaber, I think, and the clan leader pulled out a white saber, like mine. They stood facing eachother, and the second member said to start.
They started circling each other, the bloke attacked the clan man with a double swing, but the clan leader force jumped over him, and swung around to attack his back. It was amazing to watch, and I began to feel I was out of my league. They fought eachother up the cliff, and picked up health when needed, the clan member got the bloke in a force grip, and finished him off with a close cut.

Oh dear. The other bloke had lost, and I was using a really crappy character, force wise. I think I had the four main ones, and two of them were useless, force pull and sight I think.

We stood facing eachother, and the message came up to start. I tried the only trick I knew, I force jumped, out of sight, and the clan leader turned around expecting me to land behind him. I just jumped straight up, and fell back down, and sliced him in his back. He ran around, and took his lightsaber to mine. I think it lasted about six minutes, before I double swinged when he raised his lightsaber. Yes! I did it! I'm in a clan!

Of course, it wasn't that easy. Again.

They accused me of cheating, and on Jedi Knight, you can accuse anyone of cheating, and there is only a few ways to find out.
1) A program that shows which players have hacks running.
2) Kill the player.

Simple as that. So they did. While I was arguing with the clan leader, the other bloke blew me up.
Lovely.
So they believed me, I was in!

There were about six of us altogether, and we had a game in about a week.

The team game was soooooooooooooooo (I can't write enough o's to really say why it was so good!) GOOD! We won in the end, but I have never had before then, or since, had more fun in my life. Really. I have done a lot of things, I go out often, and the most fun I have ever had was pretending to be a Jedi on a team of four people.
Four verus four. Now there can be more, and I can't wait. I am so looking foward to team, or clan games on the Gamecube. Capture the flag for Unreal Tournement on your own is the closest thing you will get to it, or possibly the missions on it are closer. But internet mulitplayer is the best thing to ever happen to planet Earth. make sure that you try it.

Unfortunatly, the clan broke up after about two months, because many people didn't have the money or time to orginise anything, which was a shame. But for those two months, I was amazed at the fun of it. It was War, without the pain or dieing, but all the tension and satisfaction.
And they say computer games make people violent! Ha!

I was expecting Poke Stadium to be a free flowing battle not a turn based rubbish one!

Yeah! Not a crappy Pokemon battle! (The game isn't that bad, but the fighting is awful!)
A great big bloody battle!

You didn't need a big reply, it's just nice to know that when you go to all that trouble to think of an interesting topic, that atleast someone reads it.
Thanks for reading. Has anyone else read it?
