If all people are going to do is pray for ports of PS2 games, the XBox is going to have a sorry life playing 2nd fiddle.

MGS2 is out on the PS2, so if you wanna play it, buy a damn PS2 if you haven't already got one. It's only £200 for god's sake. That way you can play MGS2 now, rather than wait for months, or forever for it to come out on XBox. MGS2 looks and sounds good enough already on the PS2 - what more could you want? Shadows done in hardware as opposed to software don't get my juices flowing somehow.

Take SSX Tricky. Out already for months on PS2, and out in what, June for XBox? On XBox the controls are flawed cos' the game is designed for the PS2 pad, and the graphics aren't much better, with a lot of slowdown.

There are a lot of people on here wishing for ports of PS2 games, and all that is doing is boosting SONYs confidence as they realise that they really do have the games that others want. Get a bloody PS2 if you want to play PS2 games.

A lot of games that are destined for both PS2 and XBox are favouring the PS2 in terms of release date. Pro Race Driver comes to mind here, coming to PS2 at least 6 months earlier than XBox. I don't care how good the XBox version looks, if I can get it on PS2 6 months earlier then I will do so. It's not going to look rubbish on PS2 is it? Sod the XBox (cos' mine bust anyway!).

I need to make a decision about whether or not to get another XBox soon, and at this rate, I'll probably just stick to my PS2 and wait for the PS3 to strike. The XBox isn't that big a leap anyway - certainly not the leap it was from PS1 to PS2.

Beg all you like for PS2 games, but at the end of the day, all this will do is kill the XBox.

But do you *know* that for certain?

Malice, for example - once

I suppose its from game to game, whether each version is better or not. The Xbox has more potential to deal with graphics e.t.c. better than the PS2. I dont think Malice could be graphically better on the PS2 than Xbox.

With certain games I think the Xbox will provide a better game. The Harddrive will probably be supported with the XBox versions while the PS2 versions will go without.

I suppose I did make a false statement as each game that comes out all 3 consoles will have to be judged to see which version is the better one.

I think PS2 has the game in June and then Xbox has it September.

For me having both consoles I dont know whether to wait or get the game for PS2.

Virtua Fighter 4 is on PS2 soon. Xbox version is in the works with extra characters e.t.c. The Xbox version will be the better version. So for me I would probably wait for the Xbox version as Virtua Fighter 4 isnt a must have game for me.

Looking at the games that are only exclusive to PS2 I only want 2 that I know are coming out. Tekken 4 and Final Fantasy 10. Games like Colin McCrae Rally 3, Toca Race Driver, Turok, Terminator, The Thing, Soul Calibar 2 e.t.c. are all on Xbox and PS2. All of the will be out more or less the same time on each format. I would probably get the Xbox version of the games, as I will know that the Xbox version will be slightly better than the PS2 version.

But you're also forgetting the excellent exclusives that Sony have. Each console has it's own. Personally, of the next games I want, there is one on Xbox and 5 on PS2.

With regard to release dates, they may get closer. But then, at current prices, would you buy a console and two games for £400, or another console and the same two games for £300?

Also, the games that are out on PS2 that may (or may not) be coming out on Xbox, would you buy them? For example, having played MGS2 and GTA3 on PS2, I have no intention of buying them again on Xbox, even if they look a little better or have a couple of extra features. They would have to add significantly to the game to even begin to tempt me.

As for new games, it TOCA Race Driver is out on PS2 6 months before Xbox, I'll buy the PS2 version. By the time the Xbox version is out, we'll be at yet another level of PS2 games.

As we've all said before, if you can only get one console, you need to look carefully at what's out. Each console has a few excellent exclusives, and then there are massive areas of overlap. At the moment, if I had to choose, I would still favour the PS2.

We'll see how time changes that view. I still would not part with my PS2. I wanted a Gamecube, too. But since buying the Xbox, the Gamecube is looking less likely - though I still haven't ruled it out.

Actually, ports to X-Box will wind up Sony more than boost their confidence.

If X-Box is getting the PS2's best games while also getting excellent exclusives of its own (Halo anyone ?), then that leaves Sony up crap creek without a paddle.

Of course as you said, MGS2 and SSX Tricky are already out for PS2, but then the X-Box has only just arrived so its own versions of these games will be behind the PS2. Thing is, from now on, any games made and released on both formats will no doubt be a lot closer in release dates than they are right now.

X-Box now has the best versions of Max Payne and Tony Hawks 3, these both being 2 strong PS2 titles. So someone who is looking into buying a console will look at the X-Box and PS2 and rethink the logic in buying a PS2 when most of its strongest titles are appearing on the X-Box along with having its own excellent titles.

One reason why you see people mention PS2 or Nintendo games they'd love to see on X-Box is because the games are tried and tested as it were.
If you say to someone "Wow !!! Super Prat Splat is coming out !!!", your most likely to get a reply of "er....and ?". Whereas if you say "Hey, MGS2 is coming out !", you'll most definatly get their attention a whole lot more.

This is because people recognise these games having played them on other formats. I would LOVE to play American Mcgee's Alice on X-Box. Yet this has been on PC for ages. I don't want it for what the X-Box can no doubt do with it, I want the game cause I love playing it.
Unfortunatly although I have a PC, its complete cack for playing games on, so the only time I get to play it is when I'm in the States on my gf's comp.

But anyway, basically people want to see their favourite games on their favourite console and not everyone can afford to buy every console available.
But with Microsoft getting a lot of top titles ported over, X-Box owners are going to be very happy about it, especially when their versions are better than the ones they played before.
Overall I don't think Sony will be jumping for joy when the likes of MGS2 goto X-Box. Cause after that, whats to stop MGS3 going in that direction ? And who knows, chances are the gap between the 2 format releases could close very dramatically, or possibly even switch around to the point where its the PS2 owners that are left waiting.
