Ok this isn't console wars and I have no facts to back this up whatsoever but I remember reading about this a while ago so to put something game related and new in here I decided to post this. So no arguments and we can all play nice.
Here it is..
Ninty's are happy because the N64 created a happy happy world where most games are light and fluffy and involve you killing big lizard type creatures by swinging them around by their tails. So it's not reality so it's fun fun all the way.
Whereas the Playstation gave gamers a grip on reality (oo er) and mostly it's games stories, characters were more realistic and gritty. Games involved death, disease and all those other things that came out of Pandoras box and were generally more darker.
So there it is but I suppose it comes down to this, people who play more realistic dark, disturbing games arn't so happy compared to those who play in Nintendo's stereotypical world of sugar and spice and all things nice.

I'll be in videogame heaven when me and my brothers raise the money.
I want a GameCube.
My brother wanted a PS2. We got it.
My other brother wants an XBox!
I can't lose!

I had to throw one of those at a school sports day once. Went further than the shotput, but not as far as the javelin.
Camp heroes are cool.
On the whole, Nintendo games are based as cute little worlds, where an evil collides with it, but it's not really THAT evil. And good saves the day.
In Playstation games, they do the same thing without being fluffy. It takes itself too seriously, and ends up going up it's own wrong side.
That's why I don't really like the majority of the class of games on the PS1. Take themselves too seriously, when they're really quite poorly made.
"I HAVE BIG SWORD, YOU KILL MY FAMILY, AND WILL NOW FACE YOUR DOOM."
Could easily be made better by:
"I have such a cool sword. I rule so much. You nicked my friend's glasses, you horrible, horrible man."
Doesn't appeal to everyone, but I find it far better. Serious doesn't mean fun.
Id love to have a Gamecube though.
But then again,
Id love to have an XBox too.
All the systems are great in thier own ways.
Simple.
But i am definately happy with my PS2.
I think that's a little bit streotypical. Gamers are happy when they've got the games and genres they like. It doesn't matter if it's cutesy, fluffy and bright. Gamers are happy when they have the games they like.
Who's stole my Towelie name by the way, thieves.
Right ignore this read the post and comment if you want.
