Ok this isn't console wars and I have no facts to back this up whatsoever but I remember reading about this a while ago so to put something game related and new in here I decided to post this. So no arguments and we can all play nice.
Here it is..
Ninty's are happy because the N64 created a happy happy world where most games are light and fluffy and involve you killing big lizard type creatures by swinging them around by their tails. So it's not reality so it's fun fun all the way.
Whereas the Playstation gave gamers a grip on reality (oo er) and mostly it's games stories, characters were more realistic and gritty. Games involved death, disease and all those other things that came out of Pandoras box and were generally more darker.
So there it is but I suppose it comes down to this, people who play more realistic dark, disturbing games arn't so happy compared to those who play in Nintendo's stereotypical world of sugar and spice and all things nice.
Discuss.
P.S. Remember Carmageddon?
Their different.
The N64 did have lots of more adult orientated games but I'm just using their apparent 'kiddy' games approach we've all heard about so many times to make a little point here.
This is just a Nintendo players are more happy people argument with no facts to back it up. Chill.
Perfect Dark
Goldeneye 007
Turok
Turok 2
Turok Rage Wars
Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion
Body Harvest
Command & Conquer
Duke Nukem 3D
Duke Nukem Zero Hour
Doom
V-Rally 99 edition (looked like a Playstation game in my opinion)
Excitebike 64
btw: These are games from memory, there's gonna be a few more. These didn't look "fluffy". They weren't picture-perfect I admit that, but they weren't 'fluffy'

You aint seen the figures of Japanese sales INLUDING the Q-Panasonic DVD playable GameCube though. They weren'tincluded in the charts and are misleading to a degree.
Anyway, the PS2 ahs had longer to get a strong foothold in the market, I expect the PS2 to get better sales. It doesn't mean the console is any better though.

The PS1&2, however, use a different anti-aliasing technique. Neither has any :p

I disagree with the above statement. I agree that the worlds created in N64 games were an escape from reality, though were they all cute and fluffy? The same could be said about the Playstation's games. There were plenty more games designed for the much younger kids on the Playstation, only to be matched by games on the Game Boy Color.
I only know one game where you swing a giant lizard by it's tail, and that's the only game in the series that stars that fat plumber with Super and Mario after each other in thte title on the N64! In most other games, you kick, punch, electricute, burn, shoot, throw bombs at, and even hit King Koopa with a large hammer!
Nintendo games aren't all about cartoony graphics though. One brilliant game was Body Harvest, though I'm not sure if that was made by Nintendo or one of it's second party developers, it was a Nintendo 64 exclusive as far as I'm aware. It wasn't photo-perfect, had slightly blocky characters (the main character being more than slightly blocky) but had large worlds where you could steal vehicles and use them to accomplish the task in destroying the Starship-Troopers - style bugs that tried to destroy the planet. Though this game wasn't the most realistic, it was definately not kiddie, featuring classic style of music which definately brought on atmosphere in the game.
Nintendo have also had games such as Perfect Dark, Goldeneye and the Turok series (which is now going multiformat) which in gaming terms these would be classed as "mature" games, despite them just being "KILL, KILL, KILL!" They all feature blood and guts to varying degrees, and they're all realistic (or as realistic as you can get with aliens, dinoaurs, and spies who jump off dams).
Though Nintendo themselves specialise in games for all ages, meaning less swearing, less gore and more adventure and brighter worlds, it doesn't mean that the Playstation doesn't have any games like this. The Playstation has many games with cartoony graphics, probably more than it has with as realistic graphics as it can process! Remember that whilst one 3D games was released, there were at least ten more games with SNES-like graphics because the Playstation itself couldn't handle too many polygons without making the games look a mess. It wasn't the developers who were to blame, nor Sony themselves. The machine was way ahead of any other system at the time, however it still couldn't keep up with the demand for realistic graphics that really powerful PC's that only the rich could own.
There are many more games on the Playstation however, which meant that Sony could play along to the same image Sega had in the 16-bit era. They were cool. It didn't matter what they had on their console as long as they could keep their cool image. That way, Sony fans would only notice the best games being released, whilst being able to use the excuse that there were more games released on that system as a way of saying it was better than the N64.
Though in all honesty, there weren't that many Nintendo fans who were actually bothered by the Playstation's supremacy over the N64 in terms of popularity. Those who argued against the Playstation were doing so defensively, to protect what they enjoyed playing on. Nintendo and it's followers weren't bad, they weren't slating the Playstation (apart from the official magazine, but if you look and see how many fans that's got these days...). The only reason they had for putting down Sony anyway was that the Playstation's fans kept trying to show off their games, kept trying to dismiss the N64 and started calling Nintendo fans immature and the likes.
Don't get me wrong, there are Nintendo fans who are just as bad. They judge the Playstation without even playing it and then keep saying "Oh yeah? Mine's more powerful than yours" as if power in a console is all that matters. I should know, I was like that once. I used to s***-off the Playstation, and probably sounded like the most biased gamer there is. Anything anyone said against the N64 was wrong, and my attacks on the Playstation were right, and at the time, nothing could change my mind. I still believe the N64 is the better, for the controller and the games, but I have played both systems now, and am able to give a fair and honest judgement.
My opinion is you're wrong by your initial statement in describing the typical Nintendo and the typical Sony game, and you're also wrong in describing how the fans of both systems feel. Every gamer is happy about the system they prefer, maybe not 100% happy, but happy enough to enjoy their system and their games. If not, they'd have sent their systems back and got something else instead.
