It may clearly be the BEST EVER for quality of games, but there is no point in all the games if the thing don't work.
From day 1 Sony have had to make constant changes to there little bundle of joy.
EVERY ONE i know with a playstation has had a least one problem with it. The common one being a piece of plastice flying off the middle.
By PSX does all of this, over heat, crash, bits of plastic braking off, works slow, can't read CD probley, etc. But the worst thing is i have NEVER cause any damage to the playstation or CDs. The only reason for these problems is cheap components.
Oh and guess what... I phoned up sony and they wanted £40 and my working (just) playstation for a recondintioned one, CHEEK, i could by a brand new one for £70 in specail reserve.
ANY WAY...all i really want is for sony to use better quality parts in the PSX2 'cause i am tired with th PSX being so cheap....
AND TO THE DELEVOPERS, good work keep it up y'all
Game 1: Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid. What can I say about it? Quite alot! I bought this game because everything I'd heard about it was good, and they weren't wrong! I took one look at the graphics and they were breath-taking, especially for a game that came out around 2 years ago. As I went further through the game I realised the gameplay was also brilliant, I liked the 3rd Person View Mode and the way Snake moved, and also, I found controlling Snake enjoyable as the controls weren't sluggish nor sensitive. A perfect balance. Also, as I got deeper into the game, I was amazed by the intricate plot and storyline. There were twists, funny parts, sad parts (deaths of the bosses for instance) and it kept me on the edge of my seat all the time. With the VR Training mode there were quite a few options although there was no multiplayer which was a little disappointing. The only other problem is that the game is quite short and easy. But with 2 endings and the stealth suit and the bandana to play with, I was satisfied with the lifespan of the game. But what I really loved about it was the idea of stealth throughout the game, where you have to sneak by guards and do other stealthy things.Overall, a brilliant game. 10 out of 10.
Game 2: Resident Evil 2: This game has been out a while and is still very good for it's age. The graphics are excellent and the movement and character control resembles Metal Gear Solid. The detailed environment also impressed me. The plot is good, and shooting alot of zombies is fun! But it can get repetitive. But there are also lots of puzzles to entertain you. The game is quite long and you have two characters to play the game with. Overall a very good game, 8 and a half out of 10.
Game 3: Syphon Filter 2: This game resembles Metal Gear Solid in lots of ways, the plot, the gameplay, movement and character control. The plot is very good, not very far away from MGS, and the graphics are good, but they are still a case of speed over clarity. The lifespan is good and there is a cracking multiplayer mode to keep you entertained for hours on end. There are two characters you can be. One of them has a more stealthy approach while the other is more of "let's go and shoot the hell out of these guys" atittude. This is a very good game, but I would advise you to buy the first one if you want to understand the plot better. A great game, 9 out of 10.
Driving Games:
Game 1: Gran Turismo 2
This game is definitley the best racing game you're gonna find anywhere on any console. There are over 600 cars too choose from, 32 tracks, two modes, loads of races, including rally and endurance races and many more options. The graphics are excellent and the details on the cars are superb. The background looks lovely and you won't get more excited over a new £2,000,000 anywhere else. The cars perform differently and they vary in speed and handling. The gameplay is great and you get 3 different view points. The only problem with this game is it gets VERY repetitive and really is just like GT but with more cars and better graphis. If you have GT, you should decide whether you want another game like it and if you don't, buy it straight away. An excellent game, the best driving game ever. 10 out of 10.
Game 2: Driver
You don't get much closer to commiting car crimes than this (unless you do them in real life, of course). You drive around the streets of places like San Francisco and Miami commiting crimes for some criminal. Like getting a stolen car somewhere, without being stopped by the police, or transporting thieves from a bank to someplace without getting your car smashed up by the police. The graphics are good and there are plenty of options to keep you satisfied. It's quite alot of fun and will take you a while to complete. One of the only games of it's type (apart from GTA). A very good game, 9 out of 10.
Game 3: F1 2000
The only F1 game with the latest season on it. And it's also the best F1 game around. The first F1 game made by brilliant EA Sports, it's the best of it's kind. The graphics are excellent and they have all the cars, tracks and drivers. There's an Arcade Mode I think, and a Championship mode. Cars are faster than others and you won't win all the time (like in F1 97). A great two player mode let's you race against your mates. The controls are good (unlike F1 World Grand Prix 1 and 2, both are very poor F1 games). The only game that challenges this one is Formula 1 '99. But, if you're not an F1 fan, and you're looking for more variety, go for Gran Turismo 2. But still, an excellent game, 9 out of 10.
That's my choices, I would like to hear what yours are.
Thanks for reading, Ant.
Dreamcast has online gaming now, and it is a great success in the UK due to the wonder that is ChuChu Rocket - an ingeniously addictive game from the best - Sonic Team. While Sony and nintendo realise that Online is the way to go it seems doubtful that you'd be able to play online with these machines for a long way off. The games speak for themselves and who knows, maybe now that Sega are making money they might be tempted to advertise GAMING FOOTAGE before this Christmas as the graphics alone would help sell the games and consoles by the thousands. And it's not just the amazing graphics that DC titles have, they are actually great fun to play and are hugely ORIGINAL - something that Sony won't ever attempt to do - The PS2's supposed line-up is contains nothing but sequels: Wipeout Fusion, GT2000, Knock out Kings 2001, Fifa PS2, Ridge Racer 5 etc.. the list goes on...
The facts remain that Sega's console is a next generation machine and one which, although doesn't boast the technical prowess of the PS2, is far easier to program for and does have BETTER graphics than Sony's black box.
It seems the only thing that the Playstation2 actually posses that the DC does not is the DVD capability, which, according to those who have used it , seems of an incredibly poor standard.
Christmas will be here soon and if things turn out in favour of the game playing public - i.e. those who want good games, then the Dreamcast will be all-powerful. It should be, and Sega have broken through, and will eventually triumph if there is any justice left in society.
