Damn straight!

Or, is it?

Before you nervously aim for that black cross in the top right hand corner, just take a little read will 'ya?

Well, people are always going on about how realistic something looks, like, in MGS2 how realistic the guards are and things like this, but, we never ever see gay people in games do we?

Gay people are something of the society and are now accepted nationwide (Well most of us accept them) as being openly gay, and we don't really care, so why are they left out of games? Why can't they have an impact on us, the gamers?

Now, how would they be included into a game? Hm? Well, I had a little think and a talk with my brain, and we came up with this.

" Gay people could only be shown as gay if the game was rated 18, therefore we will see 2 men or women holding hands and such, making the game just that little extra bit realistic " For them to be actually shown as gay, they would have to be kissing or something wouldn't they? So, that automatically puts an 18 rating sticker on it.

Yes, but then "We" also thought how the media would react. I can see the headlines already "Gay's in games"

But, whats wrong with that? Eh? Only old fashioned people who won't accept it. Well, I don't think its right for a man and a man, or a women and a women, but, I won't hold that against someone, they are still human, living flesh, with feelings and emotions, and if they won't to live their life in that way, then im cool with that.

Seeing as most of the gamers are of the male variaty, I doubt we would like seeing men holding hands, but women, Lesbeins, I think the sales figures for that game would rise considerablaly. So, why don't we see it? Why? Why are they left out? Why? Why can't we see it? Its because its a very delicate subject.

So, how would you react to gays in games? Would you encourage it? Or dissaprove? Or would you just think "Hm, interesting" then you'd carry on with your shooting spree or driving rampage? Just think about it. How would your mother react? Mm? I thought that'd make you think.

Thanks for reading

They most proably don't put it in because people are scared of the truth and the real world, thats why we you games, as a sort of escapism. Although little bits of the real world are graduly spilling in. Like in Planetscape: Torment and GTA 3 there are prostitues!

Nah, Alfonso wasn't gay, he was just a wuss.

Tails is gay. Blatently gay.

I preferred the Angry Scots, but I'd probably get a telling off for putting up my favourite quote :)

Blacks in games is GOOD. Everyone loves black men, don't they? Take GTA or Shadowman for example.

Oh yeah, and the best worms speech was Yorkshire Tykes - Chuff me fish 'n' chips!

Sexuality is an important part of games. If the Tomb Raider games had, say, Max Payne instead of Lara Croft as the main character it would not have sold nearly as many copies. Although Dead or Alive is a good game, the main thing people will talk about is the deliciously wobbly breasts.
Games that involve love and emotional storylines (Ocarina of Time, Grim Fandango) are great, but the laddish night in with games, beer and pizza might be spoiled by a gay character. The only time gays have been used in games is when they are being mocked. I'm not saying thats right, but it's a better way to use the gay stereotype. There should never be games that promote gay power or girl power. All we need is big men shooting things. How Ironic.

Wasn't there a gay sound scheme in the worms games from Worms 2 onwards called "Whoopsie"?

It meant you could have up to 8 gay worms battling another 8 gay worms if you wanted, all shouting comments like

"You laddered my tights!"

and

"That's for wearing pink!"

or if you won:

"We won! We can all be queens now!"

I'm pretty sure Alfonso from Skies of Arcadia is gay too. He's afraid of battling, and he's obsessed with himself...and that high-Michael Jackson-voice he's got doesn't help his case either.

But these all bring a good laff into the games :)

It would be funny if nothing else.

Sounds like The Joker from Batman :)

I don't really think that you can say that putting lesbians in a game is going to make males more likely to buy it just on the strength of them being in it . Okay, a small number of sad people would buy a game that OPSM2 gives 0/10 just because of that content. The rest of us would watch the game sink below the chart waves.....

But, what if Metal Gear Solid 2 had had the player controlling a female character reaplcing Raiden and that he worked with another female replacing Snake ? Would intereaction between the two, even just " I Love you", add anything to the game, other than an 18 certificate ? Would it make the game more engaging and fun to play. Maybe gamers would like to see the girl saving the girl for a change ? Theres the problem. Gaming is still mostly a male thing. Most won't complain about seeing lesbians in games but gay men.......I suspect we could rack up about 100 replies an hour to a topic dealing with that game.

Games like GTA3 had undertones of "gayness", for want of a better word, in a few cut scenes and conversations. Ultimately its down to developers to decide what we see, but with gamers frequently being over the magical "18" and a growing social acceptance of gay people then its probably just a matter of time - new tv series like 24 on BBC2 point to how gay characters could be used in games i.e. who and what they are and do is what is focused on, not the fact that they are gay.

Time will tell....
