OK. Here's basically the main reasons I hate pop music (and this is general, please don't spout specific examples of pop music at me afterwards):

None of it is real - the voices used are drastically altered via Pro Tools, and sometimes not even their own. The "live" performances done by pop acts are more concerned about dance routines, they mime with the excuse that it is hard to dance and sing at the same time (my advice - don't dance). They don't write their own music or lyrics, but they aren't very good anyway. They churn out samey material month after month, release virtually all the songs from an album and release another album ASAP - basically it's all about the money. Fooling gullible kids into buying the stuff because they fancy the group or want to be more like the group.

You may be wondering where the link to gaming is. Well, soon Britney's Dance Beat is to be released on PS2. Having seen the publicity style shots (not in game shots) you might be thinking "What's wrong with that? It looks like Britney to me", and yes, it does. At least, you can tell it's her. It's passable. But then take a look at the in game shots....pretty bad likeness of her, I'd say. Now look at Onimusha 2. This game, too, uses the face and body of a famous person in it. You can see immediately that it looks a lot more like him than Britney does in her game, both in game and in publicity style shots. The difference being that the man in question for Onimusha 2 is dead. If such a great likeness of him can be achieved after his death, then why can't they get a better likeness of Britney with a live model to work with?

The answer, I fear, is that we are seeing "pop" games emerging. The world of pop looks set to bring all the shoddily produced, single a week, in it for the money commercialism to the gaming world. They creators of Britney's Dance Beat have obviously spent little time on the game - as long as you can tell it's Britney people will buy it, no matter what the game is like, without reading any reviews. I for one hope to God this doesn't happen. There seem to be fewer and fewer classic games coming out all the time, as developers realise they can sell second rate games to the unsuspecting casual games playing public. It could get worse. Let's just hope they don't move on to other genres, for instance "Christina's Survival Horror", or "Hear'say's Tactical Espionage Action".

Please, don't buy Britney's Dance Beat, I beg you...

I totally agree with u good post! Pop music how can u cool it music it used to be somthing u needed talent to do, now anyone can do it. A good example of this are hear'say, they sound crap, but once the voice enhancer kits in place they still sound crap with minor improvments.

Neway i am also living in fear of the POP music industry getting bigger shares in the gaming market mainly due to my hatred of pop music but also to for out wat £30 on a pointless game where all u do is sing which u can do neway in the shower. But i wudn't worry much about it The Britney club is only exclusive to 8 years or under and mainly the female sex which is quite the opposite to the gaming market. So Fingers Cross this genre(if u can call it that) of gaming shud never get off the ground. The only thing is that it'll prolly get gay media coverage so ppl may think about buying it. Who's developing this game, i can't believed that they wanted to produce such a monstrosity. This cud destroy the Name of Gaming!

I think they try and keep Pop artists as real as they can now, theres so many of them, an actual voice in pop music is becoming quite...popular, take gareth Gates and Will Young, apparently they've got good voices, so they've got the job.

Britney Spears, well shes alright, my mate mentioned that shes got a horible nose and I havn't noticed much else on her since *cries*
Shakirah (how ever you spell it) should be locked away for being so annoying, does anyone else hate her music or is it just me?

Boy Bands and images are whats wrong with pop music, and pop garage music, people who do it for the image..."what will our mates think when they see us on tv?" thats annoying.

But Pop Games, I think they're a great idea, Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Wu-Tang had a really good game out on the PSone, they mainly appeal to young girls, which I would have thought was the wrong audience, main PS owners were male...oh well the games still sold well, and good luck to futre 'pop' games.
