I got Mario Sunshine yesterday.

That's not tragic though.

What is tragic is that I just decided I wanted to play Mario 64 to see how much things have changed and if for the better or not. Just a quick go, nothing long or anything. So all my N64 games are stacked up the top of my dark cupboard covered up by other stuff such as clothes, headphones cases all random crap. I dig through all this with boxes falling down on me and my feet nearly breaking to reach higher and Mario 64 is the last box I find out of about 30 games.

So I have the game and then proceed in putting it in. As you do with a cartridge console you haven't used in a while I blew the inside of the N64 and then the bottom of the Mario 64 cart. I put in the game, flick that on button and I'm greated with "It's-a-me! Mario" Classic.

After stretching the guys face for a while I went onto the main menu, select my game with 120 stars and KABOOM! The game just freezes on this white like screen with the little glove still viewable, just.

Nothing happened after that so I took it out, blew it a few times, wiped it with cloth, stuck it under my fan at high speed and blew air from my nostrils into it. But still, it wasn't coming back on.

I put in F-Zero X and that worked fine and now it's just on in the background on a black screen. I feel like I've lose a classic, my best loved game of all time!

So errrr how do I fix it?

Shall I slap it?

Ebay isn't exactly the best place to go, you can get all kinds of nuts there. One guy got fooled into paying £500 for a PS2 box and receipt when it was released (no ps2 included). serves him right though, should have waited for a GC

Worst comes to worst, you can always pick up a copy at ebay for a fiver. Just checked - there are loads of them on there.

I use cotton buds (the ones you use to clean you ears) just coat the end of the cotton bud lightly with cassette cleaning fluid and wipe that across the metal connectors of the game cartridge for a minute or so to remove any gunk.

Its just gunk that has got itself onto the connectors of the game, happens alot to my N64 carts over time, cotton buds always works fine.

if you've got a vacuum cleaner with a suction pipe... well, you know what to do.

That IS Tragic! :O

Have you tried actually cleaning the part you can see from the bottom of the cart that connects to some metal parts inside the console?

I've had similar problems before, and I got the games working well again afterwards - thanks to Cooky's advice.

You get a house Key and wrap a DRY cloth - or something that won't break-up easily - around it tightly. You then get take this Key and Cloth thing and wipe it up and down along the chip part of the cart, removing any dirt that may be stuck to it.

This should help, if you can understand what i'm trying to say here...? :)

Oh...it worked for a second there.

Title screen came on, it went to zoom out, then froze.

Er I thought N64's were meant to be reliable?!?

p.s I slapped it too, and punched it against my knee.
