Typical flash OTT WWE presentation. Started a game, and boy, is it ever disappointing!
It's SUCH a step backwards from No Mercy. Graphically it looks disappointing for a Gamecube title. Better than No Mercy, but only just, which is pathetic really.
Variety of moves is minimal, only a couple for each grapple position, again, poorer than No Mercy's selection.
Worse still, in the instructions it tells you how to reverse moves. Part of the appeal of No Mercy was getting out of something, then wondering how the hell you did it. Here you just hammer the L or R button, hoping they'll let you go.
That's another thing, when you're being pinned, you don't as such kick out, but the other guy seems to get off you.
The only fun part was the create a wrestler, as you can alter the size of body parts. So I create a female wrestler with a deformed head (featuring a mammoth jaw) huge breasts, fat bum, tiny hands, and big clown feet.
She then beat up Scotty Too Hootty'.
Turok Evolution was equally disappointing.
Understand though that a fan of FPS I am not.
I found that there was too much clutter on the screen, plants and stuff, then you'd get jumped by a little dinosaur, which was stupid. Especially as they don't look like they're that close to you when they're doing damage. You see their dinojaws close in front of you, in fact, so they're not getting you, but you're taking damage.
Anyway, Turok, with his big axe, is often obstructed by plants.
Sorry, I don't buy that. I am Turok, a big dinosaur hunter, I can cut through a sodding plant. But no, I have to walk around it, on the path. Only I got stuck in a corner, and the plants look crap when they're up really close.
The control also seemed wrong, for some reason.
Glad I rented them, I may have bought them in the future.
Still, I'll play a bit more tonight, might get some enjoyment out of them.
> fanboys who still think that it is real...
it isnt :'(
I went of WWF/E games after i got no mercy the second time, i got it from here but it was the version that had blood but didnt save, so i took it to game and got one that had no blood but save.
There was one game i really liked, best wrestling game ever i think, it was by thq before no mercy.
The main reason i went of no mercy was after a while it got repetative and the 1 player annoyed me as there was so many routes i got lost.
Played Turok on the X-Box, didn't think much of that either, I don't know if it was because of all the hype or what but I expected more, gah.
I dont mean the whole AKI people have split up but just the wrestling game team. I definately know 2 of them have left and a few others dont make the wrestling games no more. So... even if a wrestling game is made by AKI in the future... it doesnt mean its going to be the next installment to a No Mercy series. They have never promised a sequel so dont be thinking you will be getting one.
This is what I hate about people moaning about Wrestlemania for. They are saying... "Its poop coz its nothing like No Mercy".
Sheesh man!
Its not supposed to *be* like No Mercy.
I think ive said that enough times now.
In the mean time... all of you who loved No Mercy and were dissappointed with Wrestlemania... go buy Fire Pro Wrestling for your GBA... which im presuming you have. Its damn good. Better than No Mercy and has kinda the same engine etc.
Ok?
It is still the next WWE game and we had been spoilt by No Mercy.
Go get one of those. Best wrestling game, ever!
(Availiable on many systems but only one which is English is the one on the GBA)
As for Wrestlemania, it wasnt supposed to be a sequel to No Mercy. Just because it was going to be the next Nintendo wrestling game, everyone thought it was going to be like No Mercy. It wasnt even made by the same people. I think Anchor were responsible for No Mercy and they have split up (well, at least the developers of the wrestling game have split). So unless THQ can make a game like No Mercy themselves I dont think you will ever see an engine like that again. Yukes made Wrestlemania and thats why its so much like the Smackdown series. Fast paced etc. They are making Smackdown 4 now which is shaping up to be one hell of a great game.
You Gamecube-owning-wrestling-game-fans are very lucky though. You are receiving a brand new game in the 'Fire Pro Wrestling' series which I personally think is the best series ive ever played. Its made by some Japanese dudes (BAM! Entertainment and Spike) and its excellent. If you are disappointed with Wrestlemania then you should get this when it arrives.
Hmmm, anyways, can you tell me more about Wrestlemania please... anyone...
:-)
