I have now finished the matter.

Well Sheepy I am 18 and I am not a royalist, I actually don'y care whether there is a monarchy or not. I have not heard before that she was a nazi supporter, but still doesn't change my mind that she lived a remarkable live and many of the older generation loved and liked her.

All I said was that the younger generation (us) don't have the same feelings towards the monarchy. We would probably feel more when a sports star suddenly dies or a man like Muhammad Ali dies than the queen mother.

I have to agree with the folk in the thread who said they weren't an active family. My gran goes on about how we should be proud of the royal family, but to be honest, what have they ever done for you personally, or any of the people you know. On most occasions, the answers will be very little or a plain an simple, nothing. And I know the Queen Mother was liked by all the old(er) people, but young people will find it difficult to feel compassion towards someone they barely knew. And that applies to every other Royal Family member is well.

If you ask me, getting rid of the Royal Family might be losing some heritage, but make way for a new country, maybe one with a bit more money if the Royal Family just ended.

Well, there's my rant. I can see people flocking to hate me from Balmoral about now...

Oh well

OK so I've been drinking: but the hell with all this reverential stuff about the queen mother. She was an awful woman. She was a great friend and supporter of PW Botha the South African PM, who instigated the homeland policy in South Africa: so she was sypmpathetic towards racists. She was totally against the royals paying taxes. In other words, the woman epitomised privilege, inherited privilege. It isn't 'funny' that she is dead, but there is no need for all this uncritical, sychophantic bs being put out by the media and people on the forums. We haven't heard a damn thing about the middle east since her death - and surely violent killing of the young is a touch more tragic than the peaceful death of an 101 year old woman.
