Nope not a stupid topic slagging the XBox, this one is serious. Microsofts XBox isn't selling as well as they hoped. Don't believe me then check out

Who knows what this could mean, maybe an early price drop sooner than we thought or a drop in games prices or maybe it wont change things. I am surprised by this, It is a great console and maybe the small number of games isn't helping things yet. Not sure what effect this will have on the industy as a whole, guess we will just need to wait and see where things go from here, not something Microsoft should ignore anyway.

Remember microsoft have a european factory to make the games they didn't want hardly any shops to be out of stock

A lot of the resources I have read on the web say that if the XBox dosn't take of in Japan a lot of the developers may reduce the number of games they plan to release on it (although MS may pay for them to produce more) They also say the Japanese aren't buying it because it is an American name. Seems odd to me. I do expect things to get better for them though.

X-box is a great console but £300? its too much!
Game cube may be labelled a kiddies console, however its not! Resident evil, Perfect dark? kiddies games i think not!

You say monkey ball or pokemon but who cares! if you want great quality games, which cost less and realistically are prob better than anything microsoft are gona produce, then the game cube beats the pants of the x-box!

Game cube is gona have plenty of adult games on it, but as its at a price that kids can afford its been labelled kiddies console!

Quite a few other sources saying that X-box has been a "flop" in all 3 markets...Japan, Europe and America.

In Europe there have been no Stock shortages of the X-box. There has been strong demand for it, but obviously not as high as Microsoft predicted...

ITs nice to see the more adult natured games such as Final Fantasy, Timesplitters 2, Virtual Fighter RPG (most likely to be Shenmue), Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness...Gamecube will be able to provide somthin to please gamers of all ages.

Good point Ortega, had to say I hadn't thought of that :-)

For some the Gamecube is targetted at kiddies as well, so Microsoft and Sony might not see it as so much of a threat. However, Nintendo remains the most widely recognised name in console gaming and both of its cometitors would be foolish to ignore it. Anyway, they should all start trying to tap into each other's markets. I mean saying taht a console is specifically for children is silly. If Nintendo brings out a batch of solid, adult games then adults will buy the console. Perfect Dark and Goldeneye both catered for the adult market on the N64, and Sony and Microsoft will be all too aware of that.

Equally if Sony and Microsoft want to tap into the kiddy games market, they're going to have to drop their prices to compete with Nintendo. Although I do concede that the DVD players built into the X-box and PS2 could be a differentiating factor from the Gamecube. And if the Gamecube wants to compete with them it's really going to have to push it on the gaming angle, which will require some really good games, and if these are produced then Microsoft and Sony will feel the heat and drop their prices.

Ultimately, they're all consoles and so the manufacturers have to respond to each other's moves in some way or lose out on the profits front.

Sorry for the off topic post.

I've added you now, as should know :0)

'It dodnt actually effect the game though. The scratches only appeared at the edges of the discs where no data is stored. This was only a small problem and its expected.'

Oh right, not one to know a lot about the insides of the X-Box, I just thought that there was a lazer on the bottom of the console, so when it read it, it did something to the disc. One of my mates had Mortal Kombat 3 on the Playstation and it still played with a massive chunk of the disc taken out! Musn't be much information on the disc eh? :D

Ye, but look at the situation in America. PS2 + X-box are still $299 while the Gamecube is $199. No changes for any of the consoles since thier respective launch!

Gamecube is also seen as a different type of machine so people arnt prepaired to pay as much for it. It is marketed as a "gaming only" console..while the PS2 and X-box can attract a higher price becasue they do more than just play games.
