This probably won't be a particularly long topic, but I just wanted to talk about the ignorance of many of the teachers that I've seen. Be it only my school, or many schools world-wide, but either way, it really hacks me off.

We have a 'policy' at our school, that says that you shouldn't answer back to teachers. I thought this was fair, and that I'd have no qualms with it, but the system is being abused by teachers to get an edge on the more troublesome members of the class. For instance, Person A is a troublemaker, and A did something wrong. The teacher told him off etc, but then he said something in his defence. The teacher simply snapped back, saying that he shouldn't argue or talk back, when all he was doing was trying to defend himself.

I really hate teachers. I'm sorry, I really do. Well, the bad ones, that is. Some of them pick favourites, picking on people whom have done nothing wrong. Others set insatiable ammounts of homework, just because they're angry about spilling some coffee earlier or having trouble with another class. Teachers have picked on me, and they've done it for no apparent reason. I'm not a loud person, and I don't normally speak out of turn, I suppose that's why they see me as an easy target, just to take their frustrations out on, and because I'm too shy to speak in my defence, or 'talk back', I feel hatred torards the teacher for a while, if not the rest of the year, because when I hold a grudge, I hold a grudge, you see. Perhaps as I get older, I'll grow more confidence to speak in my defence, because being shy really does stink.

Another thing about teachers is showing bias. Person B, their brother died last year, and she was gutted and all the rest of it as you would be. I'm all for her having sympathy and all, but the teachers really show favortism towards her. For instance, if I were to forget a homework, I'd probably get a detention or a warning, whereas she would just be told to do it when she can. She gets free cups of coffee in the staff room, and sometimes stays there, missing lessons. I used to feel sympathy, but now it gets to the point where I feel like reporting it, because it's annoying. I'm not jealpus, but a school isn't normally a place to relax, we're there to learn. Her brother died near to a year ago, she can't keep this sherade up much longer. She's unpopular, and she just wants the spotlight all the time. She's fat, and she's greedy, but greedy for the spotlight also. She has a replaced hip, and she gets some attention, but not good attention, people making names at her, and frankly, I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for people who seek attention and then get attention, but bad attention. She's now planning to get married in 2 years, gaining yet more attention, and whenever a teacher tells her to remove the ring her 'boyfriend' gave her, she never does, and the teachers don't proceed to follow it up at all.

By the last paragraph, don't think that I'm a sadist or anything, it's just incredibly frustrating.

Thanks for reading (or skimming :D)

As Mr. Happy demonstrates, whereas sciences are their own reward in arty subjects you are cheaply rewarded with cookies and tea. Gone is the pursuit of knowledge, and in its place is the stale smell of greed.

Greed for just one more biscuit, or one more cut of tea.

Before you know it, you've replaced sleep with caffeine, and are a twenty-something financial manager in some small show company. (Let's face it, people who do sciences alwasy end up in jobs completely unrelated to the subjects they do). Biscuits have made you fat, and your mind is unexcercised causing partial dementia.

On the plus side you can write for ladies' magazines in your spare time to drown your sorrows because, after all, you have an art degree (oh, and in Happy's case, a girl's name).

I think we all have had a teacher or teachers who we feel are hard on us and sometimes that is the case but think about it from a teachers point of view. Most of you on this site I would say are fairly well educated and clever. But I'm sure that there are people in your class who could quite easily be deemed thick or lazy or just don't like school and would much rather be out working than learning things they may never need to get by in life.

My mother is a teacher and teaching has changed a lot, thesedays you can't say "Your son is lazy" or he isn't trying and needs to do more at home" as you the teacher get blammed for not motivating the kid to work harder. Teachers don't have it easy these days, did you see the thing about kids hitting teachers in schools etc. Nobody should have to put up with conditions like that at work so why should teachers.

I think it should go back to ways it used to be, today every kid in school has to get some kind of education, so why not teach those who just aren't naturally clever and find it hard to be good at things like maths and sciences better life skills, like an apprenticeship. They could learn to be builders, brick layers, etc. I know it ain't going to happen but it could make things easier.

I can see your points about how some teachers are ok and others are just pants but think about how hard it is for them, you go to school to be educated but think of how many of the people at your school that go to school because they "have" to. Some councils even pay kids just for going to school. It is things like that which annoy me.

I was just being jokey, trying to lighten up the topic, as it was getting somewhat depressing in my view. I sure as hell don't want teachers to go on strike, because I want decent GCSE's, and a well-paid, enjoyable job.

'In January the school refused to do A level modules, and said that anyone taking them externally would be expelled. So... I took them externally just sending the Head a letter saying that it was completely within my rights as a student, and there was nothing he could do.'

If my Head was like that on a regular basis, I'd report him.

Well, I'd say that schooling as a whole glorifies ignorance. I got all As in my Highers - but still managed to tick off my teachers along the way.

In particular my English teacher was an ignorant bee-yatch. I once told her that I wouldn't be there on the Friday because I had to go to a funeral, so I was handing in an essay EARLY. Her response? 'Why?' Well you stupid cow, because a very close friend of mine has just died. That's why. She really was my least favourite teacher ever, constantly feeding us pre-conceived answers to meaningless questions so that we'd get 'good' exam results. Not, you understand, the results we DESERVED, just the results she dictated to us one rainy Wednesday afternoon.

So screw school, and all the pish that goes with it. If you don't think you are being educated then, hell, you aren't. Teaching doesn't require particular intelligence or insight to enter into. In fact every single important thing I've learnt in life has come from people I know or stuff I have read and taught myself.

Sonic's going to get one more than me but all mine are above board. And so the Head doesn't hate me. In fact he likes me, even though I argue with him when I have to go for coffee with him (It's a prefect duty (with emphasis on the duty))

I don't think all teachers are idiots. Admittedly a number are completely out of touch with school children but most of those tend to be the Sciences teachers (including Maths). I do all arts at A-level and all my teachers are cool. I get coffee and biscuits in history, talk about French films in French (occasionally with donuts), cake on Fridays in English and my other english teacher loves films, and finally Economics has the legendary Mr.Green, who once managed the England rugby team. He does the DVD library on Friday lunchtimes with me and knows his films. All of these teachers teach ARTS subjects. So take note and don't follow Rav down the sciences route because all the teachers are mean and nasty.

I'll leave you with a joke that sums up maths teachers:
What do Maths teachers do when they have constipation?
Work it out with a pencil :-D

Well, my headmaster pretty much hates me at the moment.

In January the school refused to do A level modules, and said that anyone taking them externally would be expelled. So... I took them externally just sending the Head a letter saying that it was completely within my rights as a student, and there was nothing he could do.

I have also seen the head about refusing to do modules I have not been taught, and (get this) I decided to take up physics with only a term left before the exams(!). Mind you, I got 100% at AS level.

And you know what... for all the headmaster hates me, I'm gonna go and get SIX A's at A level (mainly to pee him off).

You want them to go on strike? You do realise that they won't postpone your GCSE exams dont you? You'll just have to educate yourself at home.

Teachers are people who do a job that pays about half what they could earn with their qualifications. I have a great deal of respect for most teachers because of this.
