For the past few months I have been making plans of a very awsome robot (even if I do say so myself). I have found plenty of good scrap yards to get bits and pieces for the robot, and my dad knows quite a bit about technology, electronics and all that stuff. But the one problem I'm facing is money, (if we had enough money, we'd probably nearly have the robot finished by now).
Oh yes, and it seems I have a bit of competition from another boy in my class. He's building a robot too, and he actually has the money, so he's way ahead of me! He's sent away the aplication form, got his reply, and he's in the middle of building it! I 'd better hurry up or he's gonna beet me to it.
Anyway, about my robot. It's called "Jawzz". It's shaped a lot like Tornado (a low, box shape that runs both ways up) and it has wedges sticking out of the back and sides to prevent itself getting stuck if flipped. It's weapons are two, horisontally placed crushing jaws (hence the name) at the front, that close into the opponent's sides, trapping it and then crushing it. I'm also thinking of adding a pneumatic ram placed just under the jaws. But this isn't just any old ram, this one's special. It opens up once it has pierced the opponent, and then as it starts to come backin, it will take the opponent with it, and once it's close enough, the mighty crushing jaws can do their thing.
I'm thinking of calling my team "Team Chomp". :D
i tried got halfway thru then completely gave up...
Good luck to you. I'm thinking about it myself, and have a couple of ideas
However, it'll get you on the telly :)
sorry for doing this but:
1. You are going to use electrics and pnematics. But the crushing jaw must be hydralic or it will have no power. There is no wahy you can get that amout of stuff in a robot and stay under the weight limit.
2: Hydralics and pnematics are complex and need alot of work to make them work.
3: you need metal working skills and good electronic skills. Can you, for instance Weld?
4: even if you built it you still have to be accepted.
5. razer could whup you if you do get in.
im gonna build a robot with a vertically mounted flywheel. this means i can use electic motors for everything which makes the robot much much easier to build.
Not that I know anything about Robot Wars
*runs into a valley giggling*
Not bad.
you do know that you will need re-enforced steel to compete against the likes of all the others dont you?
cardboard boxes and toy remote control cars somehow dont look like any opposition to be afraid of.
