Ignore the business about the fine, and look at this part:
"The EU is expected to take up the matter this week, slapping the world's number-two video game maker with a fine."
So, in terms of "video game maker", who is number one?
I honestly would have thought that Nintendo were the number one. It can't be Sony or Microsoft - is it Sega?
Sony can.
Isn't the future supposed to hold virtual reality or something, not virtual Mario Land or Virtual Pikmin or all that crap? Aren't we supposed to enter worlds like Blade Runner once we put those futuristic goggle thingy majjiggies on? Who would want to enter a world like Mario land where you have to jump around collecting shiny things when they could be blasting away inter-galactic monsters or taking part in a world like Grand Theft Auto?
Yes, Nintendo may have sparked gaming off, but things have changed. People want to see realism, imitations of the REAL world, not made up colourful places.
Hmpf!

If I where to make a game called slap the Posh Kid it would be a million seller in which you use different tools and implaments to...yeah you guessed it, slap the Posh Kid.
:D
Lots of valid stuff.

Nintendo are the reason you have most the games and companies you have today. Without them you wouldn't have had the Playstation or Dreamcast, and probably not the Xbox either. Nintendo are market leaders in terms of creating profit and generating quarterly revenue, they have the most famous games characters of all time and even created an electric mouse that is more familarily recognised than most of the world leaders.
Highly over-rated? How? They are always trying to correct what is wrong with the games market and do try and add to making innovative and original game ideas, Doshin and Pikmin are examples of this. Nintendo are what gaming is about. Just that gaming has become so mainstream and frankly 'pathetic' that anything can sell depending on the marketing, which is not how it was a few years ago.
I preferred being called a nerd and playing excellent games. Than seeing a market swamped with APPAULINGLY released and made games every friday, and having to sell them on Sunday.
Maybe this is Nintendo's fall? They allowed gaming, along with Sega, to grow so big that they couldn't keep it going with their own games and it suffered its biggest defeat of all. Allowing multinationals to move in to the market.
Everything you play, will have had in some way derrived from the innovation and creation of games by Nintendo and Sega and co 20 years ago.
A definite Blockbuster.

Ooh, you're gonna pay for that!

I don't understand why so many people rate Nintendo so highly about their games. Is it just because their addictive? If it is, addiction doesn't necessarily make a game good.
To me I think that Nintendo and Sony have two totally different visions- Nintendo base most of their games on fantasy while Sony tends to have a well-measured mixture of both fantasy and realism.
I still think Nintendo are highly over-rated.
