Ignore the business about the fine, and look at this part:
"The EU is expected to take up the matter this week, slapping the world's number-two video game maker with a fine."
So, in terms of "video game maker", who is number one?
I honestly would have thought that Nintendo were the number one. It can't be Sony or Microsoft - is it Sega?
A whole lot of hubbabaloo
Go eat sheet!
I rule.

Eh?
Last time I checked, I wasn’t able to ‘blast inter-galactic’ monsters in the real word dude!
Nintendo are a business and are as money grabbing as the rest of them, but their games are designed by artists like Shigsy who make games for the games, not for the profits.
That's why Nintendo games tend to move forward with a visionaries imagination rather than simply aim at a standard market.
Now I'm going to disagree with Posh Kid.
Slating Nintendo for lack of realism is the biggest load of tosh ever.
Look at any release schedule. See how many realistic games there are?
ANYONE can do that! It takes a real visionary to design a proper fantasy world and Nintendo (along with company's like Squaresoft and Sega) are one of the few companys that can do that.
And it's not like they can't do realism.
Games that suit realism, like 1080 Snowboarding and Metroid Prime produce impressive realistic graphics that are way ahead of what the competition can produce.
So Nintendo CAN be realistic, it's just they generally do better than that.
Also, how can you possibly rate Sony as the worlds No. 1 games maker?
The only big hitting games they've produced so far are the Gran Tourismo series, and while they might be technically impressive, they still lack imagination, excitment and soul.
I'd personally go as far to call the GT series boring but's more my opinion of that genre than anything else.
Finally:
I know the N64 wasn't as successful as the Playstation, it still made Nintendo a strong profit and although it wasn't a blistering success one might expect after the Snes and Nes, seeing the initial £60 price tag of games, perhaps it's a good thing that Nintendo were humbled...
And no Wibbling else you'll go blind.

It met what Nintendo wanted it to do. A disaster? Oh no.. it can never be called that, not from Nintendo's point of view, it met sales forecasts and made them profit. While they smoked their lady like cigars and danced a merry dance to the Zelda village tune.
*do do do.. do do do... do do do do do do do do do do... do do do do....*
Anyone?
Night dudes, nice discussion. I just judged it and funnily enough I win because I rule. :) Oh, and Wookie was a close second because he made a hell of a lot of sense.
EA are the biggest and crapiest video game maker. Everyone stop buying SSX games.

It may have done reasonably well, but alongside Sony's PS1 it was little short of a disaster!
He then decided that he never wanted to have to wear a tie to work, and to this day is the only representative in the company WORLDWIDE that doesn't have to wear any kind of dress code to work.
Damn he rules. Money or no-tie.
Shove that up ya Gates! :-D

Ah, but from the comments that some people have made here in the past, that appears to be *exactly* what they think.
There have been many comments on many occasions along the lines of "Sony and Microsoft are only in it for the money, and should go away. Nintendo are in it to make good games."
It's been said many times, and I've often pointed out to people how wrong they are.

I don't think they are.
Infact, I know Nintendo are still laughing smuggly. The cartridge based 64 did extremely well and the GC is doing very well alongside the GBA. Nintendo as I have said many times, are the only large games company making a steady profit and thats thanks to the fact they are a 'games' company and not horizontally integrated. Infact, a 72% profit increase in the year mid 2000-2001 should that you can secretly still be winning.
A little like hamster in a big huge fish tank, closing its eyes...erm...
