Upon talking to one of my fellow chums at college today we came across the topic of him getting a new console and he asked me which one would be better to get. Now being totally un-biased (well i try :D) i told him at the minute that there were 2 very good console out right now the PS2 and the X-box.
For the next ten minutes i explained as simple as possibly to him the reasons for and against to getting each console, stateing all the obvious about specs, games and why i went for the PS2 ect up to the point that i bored him.
To conclude our conversation that had lasted 20 minutes on this one subject... ok we were bored... he said that he would probably go for the X-box as the PS2 adverts were crap and so the games are probably too.
What does that say about how the adverts are attracting the current non gamers?

Well that means that to get in a Sony advert that there going to have to be good games, they arent going to put the likes of polaroid pete in are they so they kind of give credit to the likes of some of the better games.
It's not upto sony to advertise games....

I agree totally, PS 2 ads are crap - firstly they are only focused on people who actually own the machine hence the guy chucking the platinum selections to choose which one he wants-how would this look to a person who haven't got a console and know nothing about them.. not very good at all. I have not seen a decent advert showing the PS 2 and the top games in a way where people would look at it and say "wow" I want that or "thats interesting, lets check it out." Obvioulsy not all people who see these ads are console owners and this maybe a fine line between choosing their next generation console. There is only decent one ad ive seen thats great and thats the MGS 2 advert I recently saw at the cinema.
Well yer but most the time there aren't adverts any way...in the last week i haven't seen any....most advertising cost is speant on things gamers are most likely to see surely....i u want a game you don't just wait for a t.v. ad...u read reviews....watch vids ect ect.
I think they are trying to be contemporary and artistic, I mean, what was with the duck etc. in the 'Third Place' adverts?
Totally... but Sony are a games producer as well as console manufacturer and to help sell more consoles they should produce adverts for the games to show what the console can do.
Take the Platinum range adverts - why couldn't they use a video of in game action from some of the games and then finish with a screen showing box shots and wording to the effect of Platinum range available now at 19.99 each only on PS2 etc etc..

i agree what u are saying but surely it's upto the games companies to advertise their games.
I agree with PE - these stupid Lifestyle adverts etc dont do anything for selling the console.

Yes, people like us who have played games for years know exactly what platinum games are and why etc and we know which are the good and bad ones.
For someone who knows nothing about games and wants to come into the games market, they need to be shown what the games are about.

Yes but remember that advets made by games companies do show games but ones that are to do with PS2 console don't....they are just trying to advertise the console.....also if Sony put one game on their advert then it would be unfair to another game because it is advertising their rival. It's not upto sony to advertise games....it's up to the games makers. Besides...all the xbox i seen put me off....what the hell is the one with the baby all about.
