Something Grix said made me think about these forums and I'm realising more and more that I'm getting bored with it all.

Some threads are interesting and I like to get involved in them, but mostly I find them dull and lifeless.
Now I'm not saying they are, I'm saying that I find them that way.
Now this is going to sound a tad rude and some may take offence, but that's also part of the reason I'm posting less and less:

I post crap here mainly because it passes the time whilst I'm at work, but in another forum here I tend to be more serious and engage in chat/debate.
Because an awful lot of threads are full of dyslexic, hostile screaming babies that can't decide what they want for tea anymore than they can reasonably discuss which console they prefer.
It's always "This console is best and the others suck".
They're just bloody games machines.
If you spent half as much time thinking and learning as you do scrapping over games consoles, it wouldn't feel like I was Diane Fossey quite so much.
And the sad thing is, about 10% of people will get what I mean.
And I don't use phrases like that to be big and clever, I use them because that's how I talk.
But it ends up with "I fink dis console is da best m8" and it makes me despair.

There are posters here that I value and chat to, email, send them CDs etc, but for the most part I can't be bothered to log on and join in.
Partly because I just don't care.
What's the average age of people here?
13-17? That's cool, but I'm 28.
When I want to try and discuss things that interest me like politics and religion, life and love etc, there's no point because idiots clog it up with mindless comments garnered from playground mates and it descends into furious arguing, yet totally groundless and based on nothing more than "Well I've heard" or "You're wrong" without a willingness to discuss on a level approaching adult.

"Xbox sucks" "No PS2 does" "No, Gaycube does"
Jesus christ, they all suck ok? They're all just hobbies to pass the time.
A discussion is where somebody says "I disagree, however I can remain neutral and try to explain my viewpoint reasonably" without it descending into hair pulling and spitting.
I know I'm opinionated, I know I mouth off.
But it's never serious and I always, always accept when I'm in the wrong and, more importantly, I am willing to listen to other people just in case I learn something.

This is a very cool set of forums, customer service is second to none and you can actually converse with staff members and sometimes, the owner of the company.
You don't get that anywhere else on the web.
But the weight of absolute trivia and mindless tail-chasing is really starting to get to me.

This isn't me saying "These forums must change", this is me saying "I'm getting fed up with it to be honest".
I have better things to do than read yet another topic about "Why the xbox is da worst and u all know it".

I'm going to sleep now for 4hrs before I get up and do it all again.
I'm not saying "Right, I'm off".
I'm just saying that it's getting harder and harder to make the effort anymore.

Why when its a minority?

Simply taking the time to re-read should do the trick. Dyslexia a deficiency in recalling things properly, spelling being a big one.

My brother is badly dyslexic. Re-reading allows him to correct most mistakes and his standard is generally better than certain people on here.

I am not saying I want perfect posts, just posts where you can al least work out what the person is saying.

I used to post on here sparingly. If I'm honest I used to only post to win GAD's when I first arrived. I did a pretty good job at first too.

But I got caught in the trap. I started taking an interest in what people had to say and ultimately became interested in 'daily life' at SR. Now I'm in the top 30 posters for the last 30 days and working my way up the top 100 every day.

My interest levels go up and down.. depending on whats going on in my life to a certain degree. You will rarely catch me here on evenings and weekends, as I find the fairly interesting level of daily conversation is smothered by useless inane pap.

But I aint knocking anybody, cos everyone has an equal right to be on here. The appeal of GAD is so great you are bound to attract loads of kids excited about winning a game.

Its an age thing I think - maybe cos I'm in my mid 20's I shouldn't be here talking about games and trying to win them.

Well encourage SR to put in a spell checker, if you don't like it.

He didn't take the p*ss, he just stated that with the current state of posts, the people may as well be dyslexic.

I agree, the inability to spell on these forums is diskusting

You shouldn't ake the p*ss out of being dyslexic. As much as everyone hates him bill gates is dyslexic. Einstein was dyslexic.n And look at those two they've both changed the world.

Well, let's change that then...

At the risk of 'imitating Goatboy'... I feel exactly the same.

Last weekend, from Friday to Sunday, I don't think I posted one message.

I've started again this week basically because I'm at work, it's a quiet period, and I've been a little bored.

But I've flicked from forum to forum looking for something decent to read and respond to, and found very little - even in Prime.

The best discussion I've had recently was with Belldandy and YH in the Life forum, regarding whether or not NASA had actually put a man on the moon.

We are once again inundated with console wars threads which I completely detest, and pointless spam topics; even football threads in the Sony forum!

I don't think I'm a forum snob, and I don't mind jokey topics or occasional posts in the wrong area - but there are different forums for a reason, and if people don't respect those simple guidelines then the forums are a mess, and SR may as well lump everything into one.

People say "well, i posted here because it wont get read in that forum". Well maybe the reason few people go to 'that forum' is because there's rarely anything worth reading? Post something worthwhile there, and they may take the time to visit.

I even find myself decending to 'that level' as I've posted some nonsense under another name today - and I don't want to become 'one of them'.

I've not posted anything like 'taking a break' or whatever because someone's bound to make the comment "is this a 'poor me' post? just go!" But as Goaty's already broken the ice, I may as well say it.

I'm not 'leaving' but I may not be around much, especially at weekends. I've got MGS2 and Maximo to play, and I'll be playing those over the weekends, among other things. During the week I'll probably appear if work is slow, but that's about it.

Not sure what to add to that. Guess I came a little late and Mr Happy etc said it all.

All I can really say is I agree. Far too many people taking everything FAR too seriously. Its a damn forum to come and chat and occasionally win stuff. Its not a place to come every day to post pointless (thers a difference between pointless and humerous) crap and slave away to win a game.

I come on during the day because I am at uni. I have never been here after about 6pm simly because thats when little kiddies get home from school and write utter poop which could all be lumped together and put in the WLT. Then they complain no-one reads it.

I generally just stick to topics by people I enjoy reading stuff from (most notables + about 5-10 others). Elitist, predjudiced, whatever; it avoids the crap.

(Except Stryke because he is a pikey :P)

Coincidently, apart from 4-5 other people here, everyone I consider worth talking to has posted in response.

It's not that I'm going to leave, I have too much time to kill at work for that.
It's that apart from a small group of posters, nobody says anything of value or interest to me.

Just my opinion.
I'm going to smoke and drink coffee now and write a story.

Stryke, I've never once said you Idolise Goatboy. But this thread is not the place for this discussion.

Don't worry Goaty, you will be back.

I was thinking like you are now, but just after Christmas, so I really cut down on my posting, not coming here for days at a time (which is a long time for me).

Yet, here I am, back again and posting like mad.

Sometimes people need a break from things, it's as simple as that. Take a break, but make sure you come back, hear?

One sad thing about this thread is that the people you mean who post stuff like "xbox sux" won't read this post. Well, they'll start, but the long words will put them off, so they won't realise what they're doing.

I guess it's the problem of SR being popular. The GAD competition attracts loads of people to the site some of whom will write good stuff, and other who will
lie, cheat and plagiarise to stand a chance.

Yep. It's the thing that would have attracted all the people who have been here for around 300 days, to begin with. Those like Dan2k, were here way before GAD was even invented.

Then you have the newbies, regulars system which encourages people to copy and paste articles to bump their word count up and post reams of meaningless spam to have more posts all for a purple name.

Yep - once again. You find newbies posting about having more respect when they become a regular. It's not that we dislike newbies, it's just we aren't people who like change. We see it as just another idiot, as all the others have been, and as a result, we either think this person is Shaneo, or, just another newbie who is here to win.

I find it hard to explain to someone who isn't on SR, what it's like. As, it's an internet site, but it's one with a difference. You actually consider complete strangers to be your friends. You talk about anything at all, whether it be "y xbox rulz" or your thoughts on life. But, as you say, it does normally get ruined due to off topic posts and people just arguing about anything. I did a post about some girl at my school dying, then, you get an entire topic on "The Big Bang" and "Does God Exist", for the entire week.

Oh, and Mr. Happy! The site is finally back up, if you want to come back as a mod...
