Something Grix said made me think about these forums and I'm realising more and more that I'm getting bored with it all.

Some threads are interesting and I like to get involved in them, but mostly I find them dull and lifeless.
Now I'm not saying they are, I'm saying that I find them that way.
Now this is going to sound a tad rude and some may take offence, but that's also part of the reason I'm posting less and less:

I post crap here mainly because it passes the time whilst I'm at work, but in another forum here I tend to be more serious and engage in chat/debate.
Because an awful lot of threads are full of dyslexic, hostile screaming babies that can't decide what they want for tea anymore than they can reasonably discuss which console they prefer.
It's always "This console is best and the others suck".
They're just bloody games machines.
If you spent half as much time thinking and learning as you do scrapping over games consoles, it wouldn't feel like I was Diane Fossey quite so much.
And the sad thing is, about 10% of people will get what I mean.
And I don't use phrases like that to be big and clever, I use them because that's how I talk.
But it ends up with "I fink dis console is da best m8" and it makes me despair.

There are posters here that I value and chat to, email, send them CDs etc, but for the most part I can't be bothered to log on and join in.
Partly because I just don't care.
What's the average age of people here?
13-17? That's cool, but I'm 28.
When I want to try and discuss things that interest me like politics and religion, life and love etc, there's no point because idiots clog it up with mindless comments garnered from playground mates and it descends into furious arguing, yet totally groundless and based on nothing more than "Well I've heard" or "You're wrong" without a willingness to discuss on a level approaching adult.

"Xbox sucks" "No PS2 does" "No, Gaycube does"
Jesus christ, they all suck ok? They're all just hobbies to pass the time.
A discussion is where somebody says "I disagree, however I can remain neutral and try to explain my viewpoint reasonably" without it descending into hair pulling and spitting.
I know I'm opinionated, I know I mouth off.
But it's never serious and I always, always accept when I'm in the wrong and, more importantly, I am willing to listen to other people just in case I learn something.

This is a very cool set of forums, customer service is second to none and you can actually converse with staff members and sometimes, the owner of the company.
You don't get that anywhere else on the web.
But the weight of absolute trivia and mindless tail-chasing is really starting to get to me.

This isn't me saying "These forums must change", this is me saying "I'm getting fed up with it to be honest".
I have better things to do than read yet another topic about "Why the xbox is da worst and u all know it".

I'm going to sleep now for 4hrs before I get up and do it all again.
I'm not saying "Right, I'm off".
I'm just saying that it's getting harder and harder to make the effort anymore.

I just wrote a large post and deleted it.

I think it's about time we woke up. The forums are crap because we're expecting everyone else to make topics to entertain us. Hell, somedays nobody can think of a single thing to write at all, but so what? Days come, days go. Tommorrow is another day, after all. Chinese proverb, or something.

Simply leaving because you've been bullied down by a bunch of mongs who make topics every five seconds because they haven't seen sunlight for a few months... well, looking at it, it is a bit pathetic, right?

So what can we do. I really, really think the staff should look into giving a SELECT FEW access to deleting/editing posts. Because if I ask Snuggly/Loki/Tony any of the staff to start deleting posts that aren't of a high enough standard, I already know what the answer is.

Christ, even just a trial period will be good, just to see how it goes. Oh, and I say SELECT FEW, because I don't mean NOTABLES. I mean a select few people that can be trusted with something like this. If they misbehave and start deleting things that don't deserve to be deleted, ban em.

It could work, but we're afraid of change. And christ, how the hell could we make this place worse?

Or perhaps the 'decent posters' should just avoid FOG chat? That way you cut out most of the pointless topics straight away.

Sometimes I just give in, and join the rather meaningless topics about which console is best. What I have tried to do is create topics discussing something which hasn't been talked about before. In life I have written a few philosophical topics abouts life, but sadly these topics seem to be left alone because most of the 90% can't be bothered to actually think and would prefer to type crap.

What didn't help with the quality of the forums was the start of the chat forum. Get rid of this, and keep the same rules with Prime and it may help? or maybe that 10% you were talking about should just post in Prime? I would be very sad to see you leave Goatboy, you have made me laugh at least once a day on these forums and that is a very special gift to have through text.

Hope to talk soon. Stay around.

You can't leave us with all these window-licking cow people!

I've lost you work email address (if you're reading this), my computer went t***-up and all my email etc got lost.

I've still got your Hotmail address, unless you want to email me from work?

Come back soon. I know you will, it's impossible to leave these forums for long...

Ok, I tried today, I really did.
But once again the tidal wave of inane noise drowns out sensible discussion with arrogant little children shouting "Why Xbox sucks"

Your Honour, Grix, Meka, Wookie, mrhappy, Stryke, Sheepy, Snuggly, Loki, monkeyman, Craw, Bleeders and a couple of others, you have my email address so that's cool.

This has been a blast at times, but for the most part it's been like wading through treacle - time consuming, boring and ultimately pointless.
Cheers to the intelligent ones for the months spent arguing/laughing/chatting, I'll keep chatting via email and MSN and stick you on the guestlists.

As sombody new to this forum (although I have been reading the postings for the last week or so) I must say that I agree whole heartedly with the observations regarding the general level of comment, spelling and grammer that I've found. At the risk of sounding like a snob I am truly worried about the future generation of this country spending so much time in chat rooms when it seems evident that their time would be better spent understanding some of the basics that our education system has to offer.
It has taken this topic to get me to take the time to pen (ha ha) a reply during my working day (at risk to my job) as I feel that strongly about it.
Still it is probably just me getting old (I also am in my mid 20's, which seems quite old!!!).
I bid you all good day.

I can't dispute anything you have said in this topic. When I enter FOG chat, I immediately look at the Goatboy topics. Why? Because although they are extremely humourous, they get the point across. I'm 20 and may not understand much about movies or internet games (damn firewall) but Goatboy makes me think about things, which isn't a bad thing.

I come here everyday and I look at most topics and after a while, I need a break. I go play a game or play cards or something like that. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 days to get back to what I'm happy with. But I come back, post what I can and hopefully make these forums a better place.

Personally, I tend to enjoy the SR forums in small doses. I'm always coming and going, (like the brazen hussy I am)...

Although its always a little different whenever I return (rather like that movie where there’s another earth on the opposite side of the sun),

Your always guaranteed a few good surprises (unexpected GAD for the Shareware post - yay!)... And a few lows (no replies to that post I put in Movies forum... I spent bloody ages on it too!)

Currently, although, I think it is nice to see that people aren’t taking things as seriously as they were last Summer, there does seem to be rather a lot of (very similar) nonsense posts, and those curios fan boy posts (ahhh... the repression of youth).

I dunno, maybe it just never wise to have too much of a good thing?
