To be honest, I think you

I haven't had my PS2 long, yet can already see it surely

I have a friend who works for a software company which produce games on different platforms. He mentioned that in the past consoles could live or die by what happens in Japan, as the Japanese have, arguably, some of the best software producers in the world and if they loose interest then the console is usually doomed! He was over in Kyoto last week and noticed that there were already 2nd-hand XBoxes up for sale - an omen already!?!?
To be honest, I think you are spot on by saying its probably best to wait about 9 months to a year and if the XBox is going strong, it may well have dropped in price, so would then be a better time to buy.
I haven't had my PS2 long, yet can already see it surely has a fair amount of life still in it.
However, my worry is that there's a thin line between success and failure, and if Xbox manage to secure a consistent flow of good quality games the PS2 will struggle to survive.
I guess ideally if I could manange to budget my spendings properly (and i'm not talking MAJOR re-organisation of my life just for a games console) I could probably afford an Xbox in 6 months or so, which'd be cool.
Oh well, i'm off to buy a dozen or so lottery scratch cards in the hope that i'll win enough to buy me a shiny new console with a ton of games.
I don't WANT to sell my PS2, but if I could get good money for it, I think i'd be tempted by the prospect of an Xbox.
I dunno whether I would or wouldn't actually sell my PS2 and get an Xbox, but i'd definately be tempted.
HOWEVER, if I could find a buyer for my PS2 at a good price (I'm talking a PS2 with 4 controllers, a multitap, and 11 games [GT3, TimeSplitters, TTT, GTA3, Smackdown, DMC, 007 Agent Under Fire, Silent Hill 2, PES, MGS2, ICO]) then i'd be VERY tempted to get an Xbox.
However, I wouldn't want to sell that package for anything under £400 (of course i'd want more but who's gonna pay more than that!) and to be honest I don't see that happening.
I'd feel bad doing it, but I can't afford both, so it'd come down to the fate of my PS2. If a friend shows an interest in it, then an Xbox is on order, if not, i'll just have to get by playing on other people's Xbox's.

Yeh it is a bit of a beefy console aint it?
Bill Gates must have been feeding it doller bills...
