Hi there,

What is FairPlay? FairPlay is a campaign that was started by a handful of individuals who think the prices of games are artificially high. They are made up of journalists and former developers who have a deep argument for why they think games are ovally inflated. Their first aim is to get their campaign noticed by staging a one week protest from the 1st December to the 8th and is asking that everyone doesn't buy a game within this week. For more info past this little t**-bit I've given you, please go to www.fairplay-campaign.co.uk .

Or alternatively don't even consider buying a game from a shop and get it cheaper online.....I haven't bought a game from a shop in the last 3 or 4 years and I don't intend to change!

If everyone stopped buying from the shops and realised that there are cheaper places online then the shops would suffer and be forced to put their prices down......why doesn't anyone see this....it's just so bloody obvious, yet you continue to go to EB or GAME or HMV or Virgin etc etc and pay their rediculous prices.

Perhaps I should post that on that site?

40 pound for a weeks gaming you say? LOL. Oh well, If that's what you can afford. Anyway, for the most of us normal wage earning people, 40 pound is still a bit steep ("a bit", LOL), and I think games should and could be alot cheaper. I'm willing to support the arguments that FairPlay are putting forward if it means that we'll all be able to get the games we love. And I'm signing that darn petintion at their site!

Oh, and the person who said that games are alot cheaper today than they were a few years back needs to look at the fuller picture. Considering games were 69.99 back then, the market wasn't all that big because of it. And now that games have been slightly reduced in price the market has grown somewhat. But the key point is, games are still at a 'lower high-price', and I think more could be done to stop us, or most of us with little money, being ripped off. I think it would be fair if the highest price a game could be priced at was 25 pound. But that's just based on my budget.

If the marketing costs and production costs were legitiment, games wouldn't be charged at a unified price across the UK (which is called price fixing!!!). "39.99 from this shop here, 39.99 from that shop 20 metres away, and 39.99 from that shop accross the road. Nice.

But not all shops are in with the price racketing. Gameplay is totally competative and so are dozens of other retail and online shops. So the bottom line is shop around. (Or sign that petition to stop the price fixing that goes on in some shops!)

nothing like having a dig at someone's language, and making a typo in the process.

Ooh, I look stupid.

You "sem to think" quite a lot echelon. For someone who claims his mastery of the english language is unsurpassed, your vocabulary appears to be a little inflexible.

I seem to remember that a video game trade paper did a feature in this a few months back and basically came to the conclusion, via the help and comment of many senior figures in the games business, that this whole thing was a load of old bobbins. I also seem to remember that this feature pointed out that *all* of the quotes on the Fairplay website, contributed by top industry personal were from 4 or 5 years ago, and furthermore they re-interviewed most of them and they all clearly stated that they think today, the price of video/computer games is about right.

The whole thing is utter toss. period.

As protest against this un"fair-play" crap.

I'm seriously considering not buying any games UNTIL this week, and then purchasing 4 of them.

Call me crazy, but games are cheaper these days than they were 5 years ago. N64 games were around £69.99 RRP, and consoles were more expensive too. Not buying a game in a certain week will make approximately 0.000000000000001% difference to game developers and publishers.

And I'm not just saying that because I work for a games company, either.

So you think that over 9500 people not buying a game for a week is going to somehow change the prices of games? I doubt many in the games industry would even notice it.

Oh and the price of game has never bothered me since I went out and got a job, if I pay £40 for a game which keeps me entertained for at least a week, then that's money well spent in my opinion.

9696 people have signed the petition on that website so far. And that's with very little media coverage of FairPlay.

Read the facts first and you decide.

Well it won't directly affect prices, but by not buying furing this period it shows you're supporting the cause. Why not? It can't hurt.
