May i recommend a book?
'Java in a Nutshell'. Has a tiger on the front and as well as explaining the language, it explains all the classes in all the libraries of Java 2 (1.3).

Got it yesterday. Its very good for thick people like me!

I truely wish I was a geek for the time being, too much Java for one person to take in.
Oh well, better go to uni and be educated.

Here is my view on the kernel. Everything below te system-call interface and above the physical hardware is the kernel, it provides the file system, CPU scheduling, memory management and a number of other operating system functions.
In other words it is an important part of your operating system.

Well, Windows has a kernel too, just a prticularly poor one. Actually, it's not that bad, it's just a long way off Linux.

But a kernel also has something to do with a sinister penguin that is planning to assasinate Bill Gates. Its all very mysterious and known about only by a shadowy circle of revolutionaries called the Knights of the Open Source Circle.
