Manchester United are in talks to sign a 20-year-old midfielder, who has been called the new Maradona, the News of the World reports.
The paper says United have offered £14million for River Plate's Andres D'Alessandro.
An Argentine official says: "Talks are progressing."

I just sooooo hope this is true. Love to see this guy at Man Utd. Heard so many good things about him. Along with Saviola he is one of Argentina's great young talents.
Hopefully it isnt just paper talk...
Makes sense though, signing another Argentine player could keep Veron happy, and make him feel more at home.
But I am awaiting Yorke's anticipated departure, and I think it's only a matter of time before he does go! Even if it is at the end of the season. There's no way he'll get a new contract!
As for D'alessandro, I think he'll go to Barcelona, mainly cuz he can earn loads of money and win things with the likes of Saviola and Rivaldo!
I think he would choose Real Madrid, but won't as he sees he cannot get in when Zidane and Figo are there!
For some reason I just don't think he'd prefer Italy to Spain.
They said this about Ortega, when he was playing great football but he did not materialise at Old Trafford did he?
Even though I hate Man Utd, they certainly know how to pick good youngsters.
For the sake of other Premiership clubs, I hope Man Utd don't sign him! What a prospect he is for the future.
He may be overlooked due to his in-experience at the highest inerntional level, and because they already have the likes of Ortega, Riquleme, Gallardo, Veron and more in their squad.
He's gotta be a definite for 2006 though!
