To begin with, let's have a look at the above quotes.
Contrary to popular belief, MS have not bought any big games companies. They bought Bungie- who are so small the MS relocated every single person in the company- and more recently Rare- the tiny midlands developer. No sign of any big publishers yet. And what have they done with these companies? Microsoft allowed Bungie so many resources that Halo has been nominated for "Game of the Year" awards numerous times. Is this a bad thing?
At the same time, MS are throwing money at other publishers for exclusives. Which is exactly what Sony did with the PS1. In both situations the companies gave wods of cash, development tools and premade libraries to third party developers to produce exclusive games. This is how Sony wooed Konami, Square and Namco away from Nintendo.
And this all adds up towards a great thing for gamers. If the Xbox's successor gets nearer to Sony's sales figures then we will once more find ourselves in a console wars where it is the games that determine the outcome, and not company branding. Let's face it, the PS2 had no competition when it came out, and the quality of games was nowhere near as paramount as it had been in, say, the SNES vs Mega Drive days.
So, to those who curse the Xbox, think before you speak. MS have not bought out many companies, made any more third party deals than any other manufacturer (including Sega!), and are certainly not dominating the market. Competition is good.

I think you will find of the record Microsoft have brought a hell of a lot of shares in different gaming companies in America and Japan, we don't hear anything about it because as a nation we are so blind as to the economy and what happens in stocks/shares. How many tabloids sell a day? 50million... how many actual decent broadsheets sell a day (with USEFUL information in), about 3million.
We suck.
However I can confirm that Microsoft own over 700 companies as they increase their size and vertically intergrate across all the markets. They are the only company to be in their situation. Hence their nose up in the air attitude.

If you aren't going to make any vaild comments do leave this debate.
What you say is actually wrong.
Nintendo are the only company to be making any sort of profit. Microsoft have about a 4billion $ loss to far since the release of the XBox, and aren't going to make any money back till 2006, by which it shall be dead.
The reason they will not back down, is because they won't let it die. They have the money to keep rearing it back up above the surface and selling a few, before completing the same process again.
Because as I said before Sonic. They are the worst multinational conglomerate, just ahead of News Corperation.
Sony created everything themselves. They didn't enter the market with their face in their rear end screaming 'We will revolotionise gaming'. They created their own market, a market which brought about a whole new mainstream sense of gaming.
The difference between Sony and Microsoft are.
Sony are a Japanese company, with a Japanese background behind it at the end of the day - Japanese thought out release and life and games.
Microsoft are an American company, why do I think the stereotypical representations of Americans are as they are? Because its true. Microsoft are up their rear and have enough money to believe they can do what they want. I don't give a monkehs weekly faeces if all the stuff I mentioned was in the past of for the PC market. Its all true and its the way it would be for the gaming market if Microsoft monopolised.
You make all your points about Sony in the past? Yes, that was in the past as well. Sony are a completely different company. Who actually make things that work! Microsoft are Microsoft, and until I see a good example of them trying NOT to be like the British Government and make up so much crap and not fulfill it. I will hold my opinion.
---My opinion---
'Microsoft = Bad news for any market'
So MS come in, and buy 2 companies of note to support their console. They still have a far smaller number of 1st/2nd party developers than Sony or Nintendo.
