If you waited 30 years and watched the matrix then, you'd realise that slow motion dives and back flips and amazing effects is common and it is just another one of those films, if the matrix was truly good then people would love it without the special effects, i dont think this would happen.... but its just an opinion.
Just think hard, without special effects would this actually be good?

Yes, veri funy. Lerf at monkee mon spelleng rong. You shoold b ashameed ov yorself.
It's a shame that the Matrix didn't become more philosophical- after all, the whole story is based on Plato's story of the cave- a hugely complex debate about reality that is still talked about today.
However, had it done this, the film would simply have flopped. The special effects are what made people want to see it, and they made it entertaining. It's a real shame that meaningful films are far less appreciated than they should be, but that's a fact of the industry now.

Its all good and well to say you are not "wowed" bye the special effects now...thats just probably becasue it has been copied in so many films pointlessly. The special effects were done to emphasise how the matrix is seen in its true form, while it is used just as a pointless effect in crap like Mission Impossible 2.
The effects have just been abused in other films, and the orginal suffers for that reason.

It was succesful because of the effects, but look beneath the surface and you'll find a very poor excuse for a movie
