"CAPCOM buy out? Not quite..."

A week or so back, there were rumours all over the place regarding this MEGATON announcement (which we are STILL yet to hear about). Well, one of them was a CAPCOM buy out which looked very tasty and likely indeed, what with the recent Resident Evil series.

However, with most rumours, this wasn't one-hundred-percent true, though there's some good in it. You see, Shinji Mikami heads CAPCOM's Production Studio Four, and is acclaimed for his Resident Evil and Devil May Cry series. He's also just announced five exclusives for the GameCube:

Resident Evil 4
Killer 7
Viewtiful Joe
Dead Phoenix
Product Number 03

But you already know that, or you SHOULD, at least (if not, see Whitestripes), so where's this news? Well, the beauty of it all lies in the fact that Shinji Mikami has now announced that CAPCOM's Production Studio Four will only work on GameCube games from now on.

Isn't that great? Five new exclusives (not to mention Project Devil, and the rest of the Resident Evil series) from a division of CAPCOM, now confirmed to work only for Nintendo's great machine.

That's what I was going to say, Tiltawhirl :).

'Spread themselves evenly', have they? The X-Box has Dino Crisis alone, which is unlikely to stay multiformat, while the PS2 has a couple in production. The game load is very much in Nintendo's favour.

GC has Resi series exclusive, and 5 other original and exclusive games planned for it.

PS2 has Resi Online and Devil May Cry 2 (gun survivor as far as I'm aware has already been released)

Xbox has Dino Crisis, but when was the last time there was any news on Dino Crisis?

From where I'm starting I reckon it's entirely plausible that Nintendo may buy out Capcom. Seeing as the GC and PS2 will be using the same online network setup, a move for Resi Online to GC would not be hard. Devil may Cry again would not be hard to move to GC. Dino Crisis is seemingly very early in development so that wouldn't be hard either.

GC is gettting the best out of the Capcom games there's no question.

Whether these rumours turn out to be true remains to be seen but I wouldn't say they're not entirely plausible. They're certainly more plausible than the Sony sueing story.

We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Err......no. It doesn't look likely at all from where I'm standing.
