*ahem*
Let us first address the PS2. Looking at it's hardware, it looks like a very capable machine but the games it churns out do not look as good as the hardware could achieve, due to some sloppy ideas. Did any of you know that the PS2 is basically a PSone, with a better PS tacked on as well? For this reason the developers have a really hard time when creating games and although the games can be good, very good, I'm not denying it, this has been a bad mistake by SONY and some of the third-party developers who before were attracted by it's cheap mediums and affordable dev-kits have now shied away, or are maybe making games that look nasty and sparse.
Despite this major drawback, that controller is very good and the look will appeal to many people, particularly those who have not looked at all sides of the argument. Loosing the Resident Evil series has been a major blow to PS2, and if Square and Capcom start going over the Nintendo then PS2's current lead in the market will be whisked away as if GameCube has pulled the red carpet from under their feet.
Now taking a peek at Xbox, I can say that Microsoft's lack of videogaming knowledge really shows. They have built a PC that is a bit of a pig to develop for if you're used to console dev-kits. However PC developers will feel right at home and for this reason Xbox will be flooded with poor ports of long-dead PC games, sent Xbox way by nasty developers hoping to make a cash-in. The current status of Xbox's original, decent games seems to only extend to Halo so far, and for this reason Xbox will fail if the developers pull their socks up and more renowned gamesmakers join Microsoft. The problem with being new to the videogames arena is that Microsoft has no previously installed user-base. PS2 had a massive user-base due to the success of PSone, and Nintendo has its own band of dedicated followers due to N64 and GBA, but Microsoft will really need to get going in terms of customers and I'm not sure if their 'blitz the entire globe with advertising' strategy will work.
GameCube in my opinion seems to be the underdog, but it is my personal favourite and I think that with it and GBA, Nintendo has a real chance of taking the lead in these so called 'console wars'. Harking back to the user-bases again, Nintendo's reputation as a great games company is massive, and printing the GameCube on the back of GBA boxes (which has been seen by millions) is genius. The price tags on all the equipment are looking very accessible, and the launch, while lacking any REAL killer apps, still is host to some very fine games and i don't think anybody will be disappointed come launch day. Sure, the GC will get its fair share of a slapabout with lack of DVD, different looks and what some people call 'immature' games, but i say this; even if the GC had all those features, we would have three exact consoles, and the only way to distinguish them apart would be the games. And Nintendo would still win, with top-class first a second party support, and easy access to third party developers, as long as Nintendo keep the games coming over summer then GameCube will easily take the crown of 'Best Console'.
There, intelligent post over, please revert back to your mindless babble and posts full of capitals and exclamation marks.
MESSIAH_4_EVER!!!!!!1!!!111!!!1!!!1!!
Wigglez, your comments on GC were unjustified garbage frankly. I know your entitled to an opinion but could you please back it up! Just saying (quote) 'XBox is way better anyways' does not mean anything. Yes, I know I sound like an English teacher but its true, without evidence you could say any old rubbish.
BTW the GC is actually amazing. There are plenty of adult titles in the works, yes there are younger titles too, but all consoles have those. Rare make ace FPS (PD, GoldenEye) and other good adult games (Conker Bad Fur day, Jet Force Gemini). With Res Evil, Eternal Darkness, plenty of realistic sports and racing titles and things I can't remember on the spot coming out, people older than 15 can enjoy the machine just as much as any other. Things like DK64 and Banjo-Kazooie were also good, but if a game has anything resembling a cartoon character it is immediately childish in your book, I forgot. For pete's sake IF A GAME IS GOOD THE PRESENTATION DOESN'T MATTER!!!
To be honest, when I'm playing games, I tend not to look at the console, so the design doesn't matter too much to me. If puple is too immature, get the smart looking jet black one! Sorted!
The price tag is good because the GC isn't burdened with equipment that is unnecessary for quality gaming, not because it is aimed at younger kids! Get a grip! If the XBox was suddenly made half the price, would it make it worse or better? Thank you.
Please, if you think XBox is better, fine, your allowed to think what you think. But give reasons, like I have.
Remember: Gaming rules, not consoles.
> Have any of you actually played on a X-Box. I have and the hand controls hurt,
> too many controls and the gameplay is just like a PS2 with slightly better
> graphics.
I own a Xbox and a PS2 and my friend has a Gamecube. I'm afraid that I'm going to have to go with the newbie on this one (Wigglez). because the PS2 and the Xbox are a close race. The thing is that the PS2 just has a better system, more experience, and a great line up of games.
I don't see the Gamecube as much of a heavy hitter but I do see it being around for a long time. I mean it's Nintendo.
The Gamecube is best... and that's it!
The PS2 is best for playing games that you have to wait 6 hours to load and then hurt your eyes on jagged edges!
The Dreamcast is best for it's time. It wasn't that bad!
So 'what is the best console?' is, in a way,
> a meaningless question unless you add 'for me?' onto the end of it.
no
Gamecube is the console that people should buy and spend time on: because you will!!!!
The Gamecube is best for playing Luigi's Mansion on
The PS2 is best for playing Wipeout Fusion on
The Dreamcast is best for playing Skies of Arcadia on
So 'what is the best console?' is, in a way, a meaningless question unless you add 'for me?' onto the end of it.
Well, now it's the turn of the cube 2
> take a bashing. Well........first....LOOK AT IT
1/The design sucks --> better than a black coffe table!
2/it's not as goos as the X-box anyway --> niether's the PS2, and it's more powerful than the PS2
3/The games were aimed at three year olds and quite
> frankly i think they should put a maximum age limit on some of the games --> Games aimed at anyone who plays them, gaming is a hobbie, not an age
4/ermmm.....nintendo have run out of ideas
they've already played --> Nope...
5/it's cheap for a reason --> decent valued components and good deals with ATI and etc...
6/oh, purple is SO LAST TUESDAY --> What about: Black, Orange, Silver, Gold, Red, more to come
7/the games suck --> Waverace: Bluestorm
8/the games suck --> Resident Evil (All of them)
9/the games suck --> Perfect Dark Zero
10/ the games suck --> Soul Caliber 2
...........did i mention the
> games look crap? =) --> Nope they don't. And they don't have Jagged edges!
1)Gamecube
2) PS2 (It's better than the X-Box!)
3) Erm... It's big, black and has an anvil as a controller!!!
