Just had a look at UkgameCube.com as they've got all the prices and info and stuff on there, and one thing caught my eye:

The price of the launch games compared to other systems.

The XBox launch games are at £42.99 (on average) and the GC launch games are at £37-39.99.

Now, that few quid may not seem much, but when the prices of the games drop (as they always do a while after launch), then I would guess that the XBox titles will drop to prices similar to PS2, around £35-37, and GC titles will drop to around £32-33.

Now, GC games will be similar prices to PC games, and the lowest priced of all consoles.

Will this make much difference to the buying public? Well, ti could do. If the only bad things people remember about the N64 is the high price of games, and relatively few titles, then this price may make them change their mind.

Also, there appears to be a large number of launch titls available, with big name games released over the few months following launch. So we won't get what we had with the N64 - some good titles at launch, then nothing of any real worth for a few months afterwards.

online gaming for geeks and nerds? *shock* if you've got broadband you shoul dtry it out, I think it will really take off when more advanced games get put online, it's so easy when you get bored just to browse the servers for an online match.
The only bad thing is, ven if you think your good, there are ALWAYS loads of Germans who can kill you before you get to pick a gun up.
FF11 and GT will be good online.

Exactly. It hasn't got mainstream, and people think it is for geeks and nerds. Thats why Ninty are right not to pursueit too much yet.

The game prices certainly are good news, and will please anyone that remembers how much some retailers were charging for Turok: Dinosaur Hunter once it was released for the N64 back in 1997.

I doubt anyone will choose a Gamecube over an Xbox because of this difference in price, but it's sure to make the Nintendo faithful happy.

When it comes to online strategy, I don't much care anyway, as online gaming is for geeks and nerds. ;-)

Nintendo don't want to do a Sega - that is, not try to make things happen that aren't ready. Online gaming hasn't taken on a mainstream role yet, so to waste money trying to exploit a non-existent thing is ridiculous.

They are seriously looking into online work (they confirmed it recently), but they're not planning on doing anything unless they know they can do it in an efficient, user friendly cost efficient way.

Yes, it'll be a little behind the Xbox and PS2 but the Gamecube will be online before the craze REALLY takes off.

You seem to be overlooking their total lack of an online strategy...

Not quite. It's hard enough competiting with Sony and MS with lower prices, I don't think they'll start ripping us off unless they REALLY know they can get away with it.

If they had Sony's current position then they might do, but they don't.

They know can get away with it in the GBA arena because they know that there's no competition to beat them down.

And GBA prices are coming down anyway.
Another £5 down to £25 and that would be a more than fair price.

The only thing Nintendo might not be doing right, right now is making Zelda "short n' sweet"...

Maybe Nintendo feel that they need to drop the price to attract more people, as they feel they're loosing people to Sony and Microsoft, after 'bad' experiences with the N64, unlike the SNES and NES?? But there are still loads of people in these forums, including me, that loved the N64 and haven't lost faith in the GameCube.
To me, the great prices are the icing on the cake, along with the great games!
