It's all about timing your jumps right. If I understand what bit you are talking about, you jump over the first rock then jump on the second rock.

Okey. First go, 4 seconds. I ran straight into the first baddie and died.

Isn't that bad, surely... I can't say my reactions would be quicker either way.
There are no Linux Mega Drive emulators.
Hmm, I'm off in to Leeds tomorrow, I'll pick up a copy then. Playing Sonic with a keyboard would be really poor anyway.
